Hello, you don't mention the model number, but there was an issue with the power connector mounted on the mother board of certain Dell laptops causing the type of problem you've got. Dell refused to address the issue until a group of users in the USA threatened a class action against the company, then Dell agreed to repair all affected laptops and extend the warranties. It's possible that yours is the same problem. Unfortunately, if you're NOT in the USA you wont get it remedied for free. As you don't state the model, I can only speculate that you're having the same problem, but if you google your model type, you may find some interesting reading. And perhaps you're not alone.

Asus ASUS A53U-ES21 wont power on

In order for the AC adapter to work the battery must be in good condition, why? Because the system runs of battery the AC adapter just keeps the battery charged up while in use, if the battery is open or defective the computer will not run on just the AC adapter.

My acer 5920 wont charge or wont work on ac adaptor but the ac adaptor works fine on my friends laptop

Either the AC port on the back of your laptop has a lose connection - if operation without battery is an issue, or if battery charge only is issue - then battery may have to be reseated or it is at end of life. Test by removing battery and running AC alone. if connection port is bad, laptop will power off immediately/unexpectedly. Good luck! btw - batteries for this unit are around $40 on ebay

My sons Dell Vostro 1500 has a problem with the AC adaptor. It will run the laptop but wont charge the battery. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,David

If it will run off the AC Adapter but won't charge the battery then odds are it is the battery that won't take the charge and not the AC Adapter's inability to charge anything.

Google "dell vostro1500 battery" and change to shopping. You will see many available knock off battery's starting at 20 dollars.

Although AC Adapters go out too. They last a lot longer than batteries do. Today's batteries just don't last. I would say average life span is a year to a year and a half.

Battery will not charge/ keep computer on. laptop must be plugged in to be used. I have tried a different battery and power cord (my wife by sheer coincidence bought the exact same model laptop as me a...

Sounds to me like the transformer circuit that enables the batery to charge. If you have bought your machine within the last 12 months it should still be covered by warranty so go back to the supplier. If not covered I wouod still try as it is not beyond reasonable expecations that the machine will operate perfectly in very way for more than 1 year.

Power button

hello

Follow the instructions.
  1. Take out the battery and the Ac power. Keep the power button pressed till all residue power is radiated.
  2. now connect the Ac power without the battery and try to start the system. Hope you have fixed the supply with proper soldering.
  3. if the system gets start then there is no problem with your system hardware is OK.
  4. now try battery. charge it fully and this will tell you if your battery is good.
  5. if it works with power supply but not with battery then there are two possibilities.
  • battery gone
  • charging module in the mother boad malfunctioning.
Thank you

Charging it doesnt want to charge the battery and wont run off ac power . the battery is bad but it still wont run on ac power

Laptops must have a good battery in order to operate. If you take a good laptop, and remove the battery but leave it plugged in to AC it will not run.. Go out and get a new battery and you should be fine.

Dell inspiron 1501

Hi there
Take the battery out and start the laptop up on AC power only, set the correct date, time and time zone, shut down the PC and remove the power jack, wait about 30 seconds then power it up on AC only again, If the date and time has changed the the cmos battery has run out and needs replacing. If it keeps date and time the problem is the battery or the powerboard controller that charges the battery is defective. If the battery is getting a charge, run the battery completely out of charge, then try to charge it again.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

Satelite m115 s3094 will not work on AC adapter

here's a possible solution... the power supply pin that is on the laptop should be slightly bent to make a proper connection. do the same for the battery contacts. do not apply excessive pressure as the pins will break. good luck!
