Question about Toshiba PC Desktops

1 Answer

My computer is not turning on. I just wanted to know if it is a problem with the motherboard or simply the HD. When I press the turn on button, the computer turns on, the cooler works, but i can't see anything on the screen. If you could please tell me what to do, I would appreciate it.

Check if you can hear any beep sounds, if you hear a long continuous beep sound, remove the Memory on you Motherboard and clean it with a dry brush then place it back again, be sure you place it as how you remove it, make sure the lock knob on each side of the memory slot firmly locks. If you hear a very short continuous beep sound remove the Video Card then clean it with dry brush and place it back again, make sure it sits tight on the slot.

When I start my computer, I'll get a black screen with a bunch of text with "American Megatrends" as the header. The screen is unusual, and on the bottom it says "CPU fan error!, press F1 to...

You need to plug in your CPU fan. The CPU fan is VERY important in that it constantly cools your processor, making sure your computer doesn't over heat. If the computer runs and the fan isn't running, the CPU will over heat and cost you hundreds of dollars.
Turn off the power Unplug your computer Open up the case of your computer Find your CPU fan Find the cord coming from it Find the plug on your motherboard labeled CPU fan Plug it in there Plug your computer back in Turn it on

Hi,
If you are referring to the green light on the system tower and is blinking the problem could be the system is in stand by mode.

Turn off the computer by pressing on the power button on the system tower for 10 seconds.

Disconnect the black power cord at the back of the system tower and then again press the power button on the tower for 10 seconds. There would be no activity on the tower when you do this.

Reconnect the power cord and then power on the computer to see if the issue is resolved.

Alienware Aurora Desktop does not boot, has no HD activity

If the activity light on the front of the tower is not glowing than it can be an issue with the power supply of the PC. Try to open the tower and try to reseat the Power supply cables and check.
You can also try to Reseat the RAM (memory) sticks. If you have 2 Memory stick you can just try to boot the pc with the help of one stick and vice versa. If still the issue persist you can try to do a test on the Motherboard. Simply take out the Memory cards and power on the pc . if you hear a beeping noise than the Motherboard is fine and if you dont hear a beeping noise that it is a faulty Motherboard.

My compaq presario V6000 is stop working out of blue..Don't know why..the power cable is connected but hit the power button, nothing happens..any solution ??

Disconnect all cables from the computer. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds. Reconnect only the power cable and try to turn on the computer on pressing the power button If it turns on then good otherwise, switch the power cable of the computer with the power cable of the monitor as they are the same cable as the power cable could be bad but this rarely happens. Open the computer and see if you see any light on the motherboard, if you do then the power supply is bad. If you dont then both power supply and the motherboard could be bad.

Emachine won't start .power is on, fan is on, doesn't boot up

I love this one. I've actually done this many times before and have been successful.

1. Turn the computer off and unplug the power cord from the back of the tower.

2. Press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds while the computer2_bing.gif is unplugged (this drains the remaining power from the capacitors on the motherboard2_bing.gif).

3. Plug the computer back in and turn it on.

If that does not work, follow steps 1 and 2 again, but this time:

3. Open the computer while it is unplugged and unplug the power supply from the motherboard then hold down the power button again for 3 seconds. (You may also want to take the RAM out and put in back in)

4. Plug everything back in and turn the computer on.

you cannot normally turn a computer off by pressing the off button. you have to click the start button at the bottom left and then the turn off computer button and then whichever option you want (stand by turn off or restart)

Will not turn on.

Did you try bypassing the switch?

To do so:
  1. Remove the case
  2. Follow the wire from the power switch to the motherboard
  3. Remove the wire from the 2 pins
  4. Use a screw driver and touch both pins at the same time, creating a connection

That would be the equivalent of switching the computer on, if it powers on then you know the switch is bad and just need to replace it. If it does not turn on I would be 99% sure it is the motherboard as you already swapped the power supply.
