Question about Western Digital My Book Essential Edition (WDG1U5000N) 500 GB Hard Drive
I have been through all the problems on here and all the solutions and none seem to work. It comes up as a mass storage device on the safe to remove list but thats all.
I went into the divice manager and it shows up there too but it is unreadable and unaccessable. i can't format the stupid thing for some reason and there has been no updates to the computer since this morning. Is there some trick to it maybe? like push the button 3times or something?
I'm having what sounds like the same issue. When I try to format it it says windows cannot format due to some I/O Error. I've tried different cables, different USB ports, looked for help on this issue on WD's website (no luck there, of course). I'm using windows vista and the external hard drive (Western Digital My Book Essential 250 GB) is probably 2-3 years old. Help!

I wonder if it's a new virus of some sort, considering I had a similar problem just a day after?
