Since you have not given even the barest info of what is the problem I will guess that you can't download your pix to your computer because you require a firewire connection that is not on your computer!!! Right??
Well, the fix is quite easy. Just buy a firewire adapter card for your computer. costs under $10 on Ebay!

Can I get a DV firewire to USB 2.0 converter cable to capture video directly on laptop running Vista?

I am not aware of any firewire to USB conversion cables.
The two protocols are so radically different it's unlikely that anyone will make one.
If your laptop has a PCI slot on the side you can get FW cards that fit to give you 2 firewire ports.

I have a JVC mini DV and want to down load to my computer but don"t know how its a

First of all, you need three things to do this.

1. A fire wire port (or card which has the port and is installed to a pci slot in your computer).
2. A firewire cable which connects your camcorder to your computer.
3. Software or application for "capturing video" <--(not download video). Video editing software all consist of this application and is what you really want to acquire since it also allows you to edit you video.

Windows movie maker is a free download you can get it here.

http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=windows+movie+maker

This page allows you different options depending on your type of operating system. Be sure to choose the correct download to avoid conflicts. ie: windows xp, windows vista, and there is even a windows live download.

Once you download and install the software, plug in your device using your firewire cable and port, select "capture video using windows movie maker", then follow the directions or use help. Windows movei maker also has decent editing options considering it is free software.

Good Luck!

Trying to tranfer digital video camera video to my computer

Hi

I think you may need to connect the camera via Firewire, I've checked the specs of your camera and it seems to be minidv and has a firewire port. A lot of video editing software will not detect your camera unless it is connected via the firewire port. you need to check if your pc has one first of all you can do this by going to control panel/ network connections and see if there's an icon for 1394 Connection if there is then you have firewire, so you then need to see which type of socket it is on your pc and on your camera and purchase a suitable cable. Take a look here for a reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireWire If you don't have firewire you can buy a firewire pci card that will slot into your computer which will contain 3 or 4 ports.

Detection of my digital camera

if your pc has firewire IEEE 1394 ports then it does not need them added, if it does not then it needs them added,
firewire, IEEE 19394 cables have a pc end that is flat D shaped and a device end that is rectangular with one side bent in.
if you have a socket on the backplane of the pc that looks like the ones in the background
f2339e9.jpg then you have firewire, else you can buy a pci firewire card for any vacant slot for ~$20.00

How to get my PC recognize the Panasonic NV-GS15

Solution A: make sure you are using the correct cable for what you are doing (eg USB for webcam and importing photos and Firewire for transferring video footage

most desktops have firewire plug in them but laptops don't usually

to get a firewire plug in a laptop you need a PCMCIA to Firewire Cardbus (ask your local retail store for one or buy one on ebay etc.)

after that put the cardbus in your PCMCIA slot and restart

then go to Windows Movie Maker and press "capture from video device"

hope this helps!

Vista and firewire 1394?

Firewire works fine under Vista, but it's quite possible your USB to Firewire bridge doesn't have proper Vista drivers. You wouldn't expect Vista to include these, they would be installed from a disc that came with your adaptor. USB to Firewire is a questionable option at best... there are often problems with it. You may be better off with a PC-Card or ExpressCard solution, if the laptop is your only computer.

Also, when the camera says "DV IN", it's expecting video from the PC to be sent to it, it's not in capture mode. Most camcorders must be in either "play" mode, or a special "link to PC" mode in order to even be recognized by Windows (any version) as a video input device.

However, until you resolve the issue of supporting your Firewire device in Vista, nothing the camcorder does will be an issue yet. You should check the documentation that came with your USB to Firewire device, the driver disc, etc. for information on Vista support.

Not able to detect my camcorder using FireWire port

First check whether you have a DV port in your desktop, in case you dont have it, buy a IEEE1394 firewire card and install it on your mother board in one of the PCI slots. As soon as you restart your system the system will recognize your new firewire card, then connect the camera and pc through a fire wire card. As soon as you put the power button of camera ON the system will recognize your camera. Then using any video editing software you can download.
