This area is hot as it is a mullion heater to stop condensation from occurring during humid days. New units use the high pressure line from the sealed system to do this. Your unit may have poor circulation causing the compressor to work harder as a result. Clean your condensor coils and make sure you have a bit of space so the air can circulate around the unit.

Refrigerator Defrost issues - Check those door gaskets

While failed defrost controls is more normally the reason for poor refrigerator/freezer performance, we can not forget about the door gaskets as being a possible culprit.

First, visually inspect the gaskets for signs of severe deformation or torn areas which could prevent a good seal. If either is suspect, replace the gasket. Also make certain that magnetic gaskets in fact have the magnets.

Next, grab a dollar bill or sheet of printer paper torn to about the size of a dollar bill. Test the gasket on all doors all the way around by placing the bill or paper onto the frame with the door open. Then, close the door, and gently pull the bill or paper out from the closed door/gasket. You should feel some resistance to the pulling motion. Test all door gaskets, all the way around. Replace any gasket which allow the paper to easily pull out of the closed door, or, figure out if there is something preventing the gasket from sealing properly.

Door seal leakage allow not only warm air migration, but moisture migration into the refrigerator freezer section, putting undo load on the cooling and defrost sections to both cool the air and condense the moisture (which is seen as frost on the cooling coils.), and melt the created ice from the cooling coil..

Freezer door does not close properly

inspect the seal all the way around the door. check to make sure that it is not in a bind when you open and close the door. if it is you can try a little wd40 or silicone spray on the gasket and frame of the refrigerator where the gasket meets the frame. this will help it slide accros the frame better.

if the gasket is bound up and out of shape, you can heat it up with very hot water to straighten it.

make sure that you keep the gasket and the door facing clean. spillage from the use of the refrigerator/freezer can cause the gasket to stick especially at the bottom.

Panel between doors is hot

Many models of refrigerators have a heating element around where the gasket seals to the fridge. This is to prevent ice buildup around the doors that would prevent the doors from closing all the way.
If you haven't noticed any other problems with the cooling of your unit, you're refrigerator is running exactly the way it was designed.

I always have icicles in the freezer and anytime we close one of the doors the other comes open and then closes again

Door gasket defective, check for proper seal around door (gasket should be flush against frame when door closed). Also other possible cause is that when you close the door to the ref, the freezer pops open just enough to cause ice to build up around door. Check drain plug inside evap area of freezer, and repalce door gaskets.

Area around freezer door is very hot to the touch. ice maker works, but after awhile the ice will melt. freezer is freezing.

HI, That area being hot is a sign the refigerator is not cooling properly. We need to pin point the cooling problem.
First, are you noticing any frost build up inside the rear freezer panel?
Are the fans and the compressor running?
Please let me know so I can assist you through this.

My hte21waaww door gasket is causing my freezer to form icicles. does any one have answers

Check all around the gasket to make sure is not broken , if it is you need to replace it,but if not and is dry and won't stick to the refrigerator, first clean with degreaser around the magnet and also where this make contact with the fridge .After this put very hot water all around the rubber gasket it will make it softer and it'll expanded after this you also can put vaseline on the gasket (is not toxic and doesn'tsmell)specially on the side by the hinges.

Water leaking from the front-bottom of the freezer drawer

A faulty door gasket will definitely cause excessive condensate and running time. There is also a door heating system which is from heated refrigerant circulating around the area where door gasket meets cabinet. You should be able to feel a certain amount of warmth in this area. If not there could be condensation again from cold leaking out of the gasket and being formed on the actual cabinet.

If the mullion heater around the doors is hot to the touch the inside temperatures are not being maintained. They should be warm but not hot. This usually indicates a problem in the internal temperatures. Check the back wall of the freezer section for frost buildup. Your defrost system may not be working and it had not gotten to the point of complete failure as far as you noticing the temperature differences yet.

Concaved out freezer door

If concave is severe you will have to replace door. You can try to alleviate a slight gap by using a hairdryer and blowing hot air on the gasket in the area of the gap....move the dryer in up and down motions and the gasket will expand! Just make sure that there is no ice pressing against the door inner first! Oshie
