Sounds like the disc transport(motor) or controller may be bad.
After the standard of unplug, wait, and try again, I think contacting a reputable repair center would be the next logical step.
Cost may outpace the value of the player, as many repair facilities want $60,00 as a base fee + parts. How much would it cost to replace the DVD player? >Costs have come down for all but the most esoteric models.

Dvd player say no disc

Hi.

If this happens with every disk that means that either the drive unit is faulty or that there is a problem with the optical laser lens that is dirty, faulty or opaque, and will start operating on certain disks better than others.

In that case you will hear disk spinning, whirring and clicking, but the TOC (table of content track at start of CD/DVD will not be read, therefore the error.

Whe this problem is starting you may be able to read only few CD, DVD. After more prolonged usage , often the unit will start losing the rest of functions, and ends up not reading anything at all.

If that does not work, then the drive is faulty. The most common fault is due to the laser beam not emitting on the proper frequency. The red laser light is not in the correct band and the drive does not detect that there is a disk inside.

If instead there is no noise, and disk does not spin at all , then there is a faulty motor, or the motor micro-switch is bad. This situation is far less common than the lens or laser problem.

Try first using a CD/DVD cleaner disk to clean the lens. If that does not work you will need to disassemble the player, and clean lens directly with q tips and isopropyl alcohol, or to replace the CD/DVD lens or the whole drive unit depending on the fault.

Regards.

My DVD player won't play the DVD's so what is the problem, it just started not playing them

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having some issues with your dvd player, but hopefully the following information can help you determine what the problem may be.
The most common problem that causes dvd players to not read the discs is because the optical lens is dirty and needs to be cleaned. The optical assembly uses a laser to read the data from discs and over a period of time dust and dirt build up on the lens which prevents the laser from reading the discs properly. The dvd player will usually give you some kind of error message such as "no disc", "cannot read disc" or some other message along those lines.
The easiest way to clean the optical lens is by purchasing a cd/dvd cleaning kit (you can purchase them at most stores that sell electronics such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, etc).
The next common problem is that the disc is dirty or scratched. If you hold the disc up to the light and tilt it back and forth you can see if the disc may have small scratches or has some form of dirt (such as finger prints). Again, you can purchase kits that will help you remove scratches and dirt.
Dvd players can also encounter mechanical problems that will prevent them from reading discs. The following could also cause the player to not read the disc.
1. The spindle motor: Discs spin inside the machines so that the optical assembly can read the data. If you listen closely when you put a disc in and close the tray, you should be able to hear the disc spinning up inside the player. If the disc is not spinning at all or it spins a little then quits and continues to do this a couple more times then the spindle motor is likely the problem and will need to be replaced. The part is not expensive (average cost $25-40 dollars), but the labor could cost you between $50-80 dollars if you pay a technician to replace it.
2. The optical assembly- This is where the components are contained that uses the laser to read discs (including the optical lens). If a component inside the optical assembly has malfunctioned, the player will not be able to read the discs. Fixing this can be expensive depending on the part and of course the labor.
The following link to my tips and tricks page, will provide you with more detailed information on the components I mentioned plus a few more malfunctions. It will also provide you with pictures so that you will be able to see the components.

If you have the technical skills or feel comfortable working on any of the items I have mentioned, it will save you a lot of money. Remember, when working on any electronic component that you should exercise great caution because of a SHOCK hazard (which can happen even it the device is unplugged because capacitors hold electrical charges for some time even when no power is supplied) and when working with anything that contains a LASER can also be harmful to the eyes.

I hope this will help you determine what the problem may be so that you can get it quickly resolved. Let us know if you need further assistance.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You

DVD player side won't go in or read, but will come out fine. What can I do to fix this? The machine isn't very old. When I push it in manually, it won't read. When I try to use the button it wont' go in...

This happens when the DVD player has motor spindle problems if the media does not spin the laser can't read the information it will hunt and eventually fail.

You may see UNKNOWN DVD on a philips model or C 00 13 on a SONY model (ie dirty disc)

HELP!

If the driver was the problem, the drive itself would not likely be seen at all. The message idicates that the disc can not be read. It is possible that the optics have failed, but normally there would be an indication of this prior to complete failure. Try cleaning the lens using a coton swab and alcohol. This should resolve the problem.

Update this if the problem continues.

DVD player will not read any disc

The motor is on its way out - the H02 code indicates motor failure as in it cannot spin the disc. You can sometimes fix it but for how long is anyone's guess. Disconnect from the power, remove the three rear screws and two screws on each side (total 7) and lift off the outer cover. Now if you carefully reconnect the power BE VER YCAREFULLY NOT TO TOUCH ANY PARTS INSIDE THE CASE and put a DVD disc in as per normal, you'll will see that when the tray closes, the upper platen (a honeycomb disc) that sandwiches the DVD to the lower platen does not spin - it should. Give a gentle spin clockwise and it should spin up and the DVD will play. You may need to restart if you missed your chance first time. If you switch off and on, eject and close the tray, the spin should happen as normal. If it doesn't, your motor is knacked and not an economical repair. Buy a new player. If it spins time and time again, you may well have temporarily fixed it for a while.

After trying to read a disc it says cannot read

I had the exact same problem - I bought this DVD player TODAY at a garage sale for 5 bucks, they said it wouldn't read the disc, so I looked it up and found this thread. I did what that other person did, in that I had a DVD loaded into the player, then I took the top off. The DVD worked perfectly! I actually didn't even have to touch anything inside. I then put the top back on, making sure not to tighten the screws too hard. I think what it was is that this is a very slim unit, and there really isn't much room for the motor to spin the DVD, especially if there is even a 1 millimeter bend in the casing - it prevents the DVD from spinning around. I would reccomend never putting anything on top of this DVD player.
