Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
While watching a movie on my Ps3, I heard a loud pop and a flash of electrical light. The Ps3 will not power up at all. It is a 60gb from 5/03/07. I Suspect a bad power supply, but when I took it out everything looks ok, Nothing is burnt. Is it possiblle the power supply is no good?
Sony charges 150-170$ to fix it.. if it was a bluray id suggest sendng it in.. but its not a new supply is 50-60$ save yourself some cash and do it yourselg Ihave the directions and will freely let you use them! PS I do fix ps3's at least 1 a day so I know what I am talking about!

If your Playstation 3 does not power on, there are a couple of things I would suggest trying before you seek any kind of repairs.
First, you may wish to unplug the PS3 for five to ten minutes before reconnecting it. Some electronic devices have a safety feature that temporarily disables the product when a power surge occurs, in order to prevent any kind of damage. You may also wish to check the main power switch located on the back of the PS3 - this may have been "tripped" to the "Off" position by any hardware failure.
Secondly, you may also want to try a different power adaptor/cable. All models of the PS3 should have a light on the outside casing that remains lit whether the unit is in operation or in stand-by mode. This light should be red while the unit is in stand-by mode, and blue or green while it is in use. This light would not be lit if there is no power supplied to the PS3.
Please keep in mind however, that with any hardware failure there may not necessarily be any visible indicators that one has occurred.
Should all else fail, I'd suggesting giving Sony's toll-free hotline a call at 800-345-SONY (800-345-7669) for further assistance.
Hope this helps you out.
