Question about Everex StepNote NC1500 Notebook
I am having trouble connecting to the internet via wireless. The card will enable but only displays that there are no available wireless networks in the area, when I know for certain there is one (another computer can connect to it). I don't know where the switch is to turn on the wireless card so I'm not sure if this is the problem or not. Also, it won't even search for new networks when I press check available wireless networks, it just sits there. Please help!
“Right click” on “my computer” icon and select "manage"
then go to services and make sure your "Windows Zero Config" service is started
Chances are it is probably not since to use the windows wireless utility this service must be started unless you’re using the wireless utility that comes with your card then it might not be started depending on the brand of card you have
either way start the service then go to network connections and right click your wireless connection and choose "view avail wireless networks" and if it says windows can not display networks then that’s cool just click "change advanced settings" on the lower left side of that window and then when the next window pops up just go to the "wireless networks" tab at the top and then check the box that says "let windows configure my wireless networks" and then click ok to close the window
Now you should be able to click view available wireless networks and if the windows zero Config service is started the you should see a list no problem if it is not started then there will be an empty list like the one you describe

First make sure the Wireless LAN card driver is installed. Then go to device manager and make sure the Wireless LAN card is enabled. If not, right click on the Wireless LAN card icon and select enable. Once that is done you should be able to search for wireless networks. If a wireless router is not broadcasting the SSID for the wireless network, the Wireless LAN card will not be able to locate the network during the search. If that is the case, you will need to set up the connection manually. If you can see the correct wireless network during the search but still can't connect to the network, it may not be an open network, so make sure you have the correct security settings for the network you want to connect to. If you did not set up the wireless network, you will need to get the security information from the network administrator.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
