OP right now is 98. I do have a new XP home, should I just pop it in and follow instructions? Do I have to delete 98 first? If so, how?

Call the manufacture and see if they would be willing to send you a restore disk. Also not a cheap way but you could by new windows xp and re-install it. System restore could get you pretty far back but it doesn't allow you to re do the whole hard drive. What is the operating system?

Compaq Presario V2000 runs very slow!

First thing you should do is run some free virus and malware scanning programs.

Get and run Combofix

Then get and run Malwarebytes Anti-malware

Get CCleaner to clean up your computer a bit.

Then put Avira Antivirus on it. This will slow the computer down a little but will keep future viruses off of it.

How can virus came nokia 2700 classic

Hello there,
Virus can get to your phone is several ways, either by file transfer through bluetooth transfer, or downloads from links on the internet, or from a computer that has the virus on it when you use the usb to connect it to the phone.
To get the virus of the phone, you can try restore the factory settings of the phone.
To restore the factory setting of the phone is quite simple. All you need to do is to go to the menu, then you select the settings, then from the settings page, scroll down till you get to restore factory settings, from there it will prompt you to enter the security code of the phone, enter it and a page will load up, then the phone will restart, that way it will turn on as good as it was when you first bought it.
If you do not have the security code of the phone, you can try to dial *#7073# and send it, it should restore it for you. or *#7370# it depends on the phone.
Would be glad to knowif this information was helpful to you. All the best Elect_Comp

Have a virus on my toshiba laptop, can i resolve this by restoring the factory settings?

Hi Andrewfairwa.

Yes, you may remove all the security threats in the Computer by restoring it to the Factory settings.

But, restoring the Computer to the Factory settings will also delete the Data in the Hard Drive.

Hence, you may try performing a Complete System Scan to check for any Virus or security threats.

You may perform the Complete System Scan by using the Anti-virus Application installed in the Computer.

If you have not installed any Anti-virus Application installed in the Computer, you may perform a online System Scan.

Let me provide the detailed steps to perform the online System Scan.

You may perform the free Online Scan by visiting the below link:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

Please open the above link and click on "Start Scanner".

This will start the free Online System Scan.

Once the Scan is complete, check if the Virus or any security threats are removed from the Computer.

If there are still any threats, then you may backup all the important Data and restore the Computer to the Factory settings.

Hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask further questions.

I have a malicious virus...i tried Windows update virus removal..still have the block from accessing internet, asking to buy removal tool...tried restoring to factory settings upon restart..F10 doesnt...

In regards to removing the virus when you did the factory restor did you actually to the restore of the restore partition on the hard drive or from restore disks. If it was from the restort partition it is possible that the virus spread to that drive.

If you have access to another computer then I would connect the drive to other computer and try to scan the drive.

The reason for this if Windows thinks the virus is a system file the removal program can not remove it if Windows is running. So connecting it to another computer allows you to fully clean the hard drive. However with alot of viruses at this level will cause you to have to do a clean reinstall of Windows any ways. So you may have to look using your restore disks any ways to get a clean reinstall of Windows.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

System restore utility not getting activated by known methods

I'm a certified computer tech and have been doing this for years. system restore often causes more problems than it fixes. I recently ran into this issue on a friends computer. upon investigating his computer was infected with a nasty virus that infected all of his restore points. go to housecall.antiviurs.com or another security website and run a free online virus scan. check that first, if that isn't the problem try manually going into system restore and running it (start > all programs> Accessories > System Tools > system restore). it may be able to be fixed with the system restore. if not you may want to consider either taking it to a technician or backing up your files and reloading the comptuer.

dust was caked in the fan behind the blade in the grid .I took a tooth pick and cleaned it out.then swept it with the dust and crease attachment.I was leaning towards the heat causing the problem because i ran three different virus scans nothing showed up.Thank you for confirming the two opinions i also had.Should always check the easiest solution first.

Factory Restore

you will need the 3 recovery disks that came with the PC, back up/copy call files you want to keep Pic's, word, ect.
also copy call your IE Favorites.
good luck as you know this will wipe your hard drive. you will need to reload the updated drivers for the Pen and the Video Drivers. hard to find.

Factory Restore computer

Yes, factory re-imaging of the computer will work. But it's overkill.

Her computer is most likely infected with a virus that tells windows to shutdown.

Before reformatting the computer, have her boot into safe mode. Do this by hitting F8 while the computer is booting, and the safe mode menu will pop up, where she can pick "Safe Mode" as the method of booting.

When windows comes up, she should run a virus scan on her computer and try and get rid of the problem. She does have some kind of anti-virus utility installed right? If not, get AVG Free Edition from http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads?prd=aff

Factory restore

Who made the PC and what year?

For example the new dell systems I think everyone made after 2005, has a feature where on startup you press and hld the "F11" and it will restore an image of factory settings without the need of a disk.

If your doesn't offer this, you'll need an operating system disk, you can buy these, once bought you boot from it, we can explain how later, then basically delete the partitions and install XP or whatever operating system you decide to buy on your PC.

Before you do any of this, I would recommend buying an USB drive, or DVD RW or CD RW disk and backing up your data, I like USB cause you don't need a DVD writer, or anything like that.

Good luck!
