Laptop keyboard is not working correctly

When I use the "num lock" feature, the right half portion of the keyboard becomes numbers, too. The keyboard on this laptop is like the regular keyboard with separate number keyboard. My computer guy fixed this problem once before, but didn't know how he did it, said he was messing around with the buttons and got lucky.
Please help, there is no point of having separate num key and can't use it.
Thank you,
Wyndi Pham

It does sound like your computer is confused as to what type of keyboard it has. You can try updating the BIOS on the laptop - based on the suggestion in this HP help document:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01458194&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3224049

Let me know if this helps or not.

SOURCE: laptop keyboard is not working correctly

Accoring to the problem you have mentioned i am sure the keys are not connected properly. The tab key is connected on the Caps lock key. Moreover make sure you press the fn key to check for any changes as it is the key which helps you toggle in Laptop

HOW TO SWITCH BETWEEN NUMBERS AND LETTERS

I'm guessing this is on a laptop or mini keyboard? You have managed to turn them number lock on. To be able to use the letters again on the keyboard the number lock feature needs to be turned off. This varies depending on the model of keyboard/laptop. One thing that may help is using the fn (lower left on keyboard) key on laptops (funtion key) and while pressing this tap the Num Lock key, usually at the top right of the keyboard.
difficult to be specific without knowing the exact make/model.

Hi.

You have your Num Lock on. Look for the Num Lock key on the top right of the keyboard and press it. That will remove the Number Lock and the letters will type as normal.

Regards.

My Gateway laptop - 2 yrs old - just developed problem - some letter keys actualy type numbers ... eg "M" becomes zero, total of nine, while the zero number key types"/". Help!

Sounds like you have turned on the NUM LOCK on the laptop keyboard. If you look closely you will see the numbers on those keys (maybe in a different colour).

You need to turn off NUM LOCK again. On the laptop I'm looking at, this is done by pressing Fn and END together, but the key should be marked with NUM LOCK as well.

Press Ctrl-Shift-NumLk to lock or unlock the number lock feature. The NumLk key should be the same key as ScrlLk at the upper right hand part of your keyboard.

You probably activated the "Num Lock" accidently. Just hold down the FN and look for the key that says "num lock" Now you should have your keyboard back and the numbers will just type when you hit the numbers key. I did this to myself yesterday!
