Check the fuel pressure, could be the fuel pump

Should be in the box near the battery.

The cat converter is mainly for emission controls. If you are in a state that does not due emission tests like I do(MN), you can remove that cat conv with no problems other than a little more polution.

F150 is a Ford model truck, not GMC.
But at any rate, since I don't know if you have a Ford F150 of some kind, a 87 GMC S15 or some kind of 89 GMC with a V6 I will suggest taking the ignition module to an Auto Zone and having them test it (A free service). Also test the fuel pressure.
If a tune up and fuel filter has not been done in some time that could very well be an issue.

have you checked your fuses?

if you want to change ign switch it is bolted to the steering column if you want to replace the key lock cyl you need to remove steering wheel and turn signal switch but you need special tools to do that

it's under the hood on the firewall on the drivers side

there should be clips on it that have to be removed. i need more details engine 4x4 2x4?
