as long as the key you have is for the windows xp home edition and your install disc is windows xp home then it should install fine and activate, if not you will still be able to use it but with a couple of limited features

You'll need a windows xp operating system disk. If you already have windows xp on the Acer then check the Certificate of Authentication (COA) sticker to see what version of windows xp it has. You'll have to have an operating system disk with the same version otherwise once it asks for the key to activate windows it will not activate. For Example, if your COA says Windows XP Professional you cannot install a Windows XP Home version unless you purchased the Home Version and the COA Key has never been used.

The Home Basic licence does not cover you legally to do this. You need a retail version of XP, not an OEM version. If you have an OEM version of XP (e.g. Dell XP recovery CD) it will not activate on the Tosh and MS will refuse to give you an activation code becuase it is illegal. If you do manage to install XP and activate it, you will of course need drivers. Check the Tosh website for XP drivers. If they don't have any for your model then you may have trouble finding the correct ones.
