It's a laptop computer...and on the acer support page...it is common in this computer and 3 other acers for the num lock keys not to work after the motherboard has been replaced.....but I still have warrenty on it, so I will be making the 5 hour trip to the nearest best buy and have them fix it....but thank you for your time, I appreciate it! It's just not the num lock it's the whole 10 key side (the numbers, the +,-,*,/,enter, pageup...etc,etc...). But thank you for trying....

Have you tried a different keyboard? to ensure that it is infact not just the keyboard having a broken key? as the num lock feature has little to nothing as i would see it to do with *********** board? its a standard keyboard thing.. i guess there could be a bios setting? but i would say try that keyboard on a different computer then try another keyboard on your computer? and then let me know - thanks nate

Num lock

If you use the number pad frequently during your daily computer usage, you may want to have the "Num Lock" key enabled when the computer starts up.
You can enable Num Lock automatically in two different ways: one involves modifying a value in the registry and the other requires you to create a small script in Notepad.
Activate Num Lock Through the Registry
Enter the registry and navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard\." Double-click on the value labeled "IntitialKeyboardIndicators," which has a value of 0,1 or 2.
Change the value to "2" to turn Num Lock on after logon, "0" to turn Num Lock off after logon and "1" to disable Num Lock.
Create a Num Lock Script
Configure a script that runs to automatically change the Num Lock state.
Depending on where you place the script, you can activate the script for a single user or all users on the computer. Open Notepad and paste the following code
"set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.SendKeys "{NUMLOCK}"
Save the file as "numlock.vbs," including the quotes to change the notepad file to a script.
Paste the file in the directory "Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" to enable Num Lock for all users by default.
For a single user, copy it to their startup folder instead of All Users.
Enter the BIOS
Enter your computer's BIOS before Windows boots up to change the integrated Num Lock settings.
Depending on your motherboard manufacturer, different key combinations allow you to access the BIOS.
Common keys include "F1," "F2," "Del," "ESC" or "F10."
Consult your computer's documentation for specifics.
Navigate through the basic or advanced options until you find a section dedicated to enable or disable Num Lock on boot.
Enable in Linux
Linux is an alternate operating system.
While the BIOS method may work for Linux, you can also change the process through the options if using KDE Linux.
Navigate to "Control Panel" and click "Peripherals." Select "Keyboard" and select the option "Turn on" under the heading labeled "NumLock on KDE Startup."

I have HCL Ezeebee desktop computer when we boot the system monitor, keyboard, mouse blink for a while and monitor (HCL) show 'no signal' message, and keyboard num lock led not display mouse i

No signal at the monitor indicates (if you know the monitor is working ok) a failure of the graphics chip or graphics card, The lack of indicator light on the num lock LED and the lack of power to the mouse would indicate that there is a major issue with the motherboard.
you can try using another monitor to confirm the problem lies with the graphics, and in the case of the keyboard and mouse, swap them for a usb version, if they work, the Ps2 ports are probably damaged.
I'd be thinking of replacing the motherboard

Power up but no signal on monitor(hp paviliona6430f)

First check the num lock status on key board after power up the computer press num lock key then check the num lock led status if it is on and off when you press num lock then cpu is working fine only issue with screen resolution for that when you power up the computer press F8 key 5 to 6 times untill you can see safe mode and other menu enter in "enable vgamode " then if you are able to enter then go to display property and change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and check.but if you are not able to enter then open cpu cabinet cover then reconnect RAM memory pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes then put it back also try with another RAM memory make sure motherboard is not ground with cabinet cover.Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

How do I fix my computer moniter?the screen is black

When you power up then after 12 seconds check the num lock led status on key board press num lock key then if num lock led is on and off then your cpu is working fine.
For that make sure vga adapter from monitor is connecxted to cpu is properly. Then when you power up the computer press F8 key then you can see some menu enter in "Enable vga mode " then go to display property and change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and check.
But if num lock led is constant then then you need to open cpu cabinet cover.
Then reconnect ram memory .Try it in different ram slot.Make sure motherboard is not ground with cabinet.REmove pci or other card if any.
Then check.
Pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes then connect again.
Also reconnect processor and it's fan then check.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.i

have you tried going into BIOS and setting Num Lock ON in startup? Do the Num Lock / Caps Lock and Scroll Lock flash when you boot up?

Check the pins if using PS/2 or is it a USB keyboard?

Cheers
