Question about Lexmark Office Equipment & Supplies

My Lexmark Series 3100 (model 4477-001) works excellently However, Yesterday I lifted the cover to inspect and then closed as usual..Now I get a message when I try to print that the cover is open. I have tried to fix this about 10 time but with no success Please help>

    I would have guessed that myself, but it is of no help unless you identify "sensor" and "switch" Since I do not have a design plan this is of no help

    I tried shaking and examined the three holes I found in the cover. No success.

    I still can't find a sensor. However your suggestions are at lesst operative and not the nonsense given by EKSE (which I certainly do not consider expert advice)

This can happen if the lever on the cover open sensor is knocked off the switch assembly.

1. You can first try a hard reset and see if that helps..Unplug printer from AC power source, and disconnect from PC. Wait about 10 minutes, and reconnect to AC source and PC. Now turn on the power button on the printer and see if that helps.

2. Try blowing the insides with a can of compressed air to clear out any dirt/debris from inside.

NOTE: When calling for service, you will need to know your printer model type and serial number.
Please call from near the printer in case the technician asks you to perform a task involving the printer.

ITS A SENSOR PROMBLEM MY DEAR FRIEND.JUST CHECK OUT IS THERE ANYTHING STOPPING THE COVER TO DETECT THE SENSOR.ALSO TRY TO CLEAN THE SENSOR TO CLEAR OFF ANY OBJECT THAT IS STUCK IN.

    SENSOR IS VERY EASY TO FIND AS IT ALWAYS HAS A OPEN OUTLET OVER IT WHICH IS COVERED WEN U CLOSE OFF THE DOOR.JUST CHECK OUT THE CORNERS WERE UR PRINTER TOUCHES IF U DOOR WHILE CLOSING.

A sensor or a switch is probably stuck and it thinks that the cover is still open.

how to fix this? I suppose you would have to take it apart - warranty?

    Can't find a Service manual for your model, I suggest you contact lexmark - they also have tech support on the site. Il check there if they got instructions on this.

I have just changed my ink cartages &the printer says I have a printhead problem


The error can be the result of firmware code, printer contacts or the printhead itself failing. There is a firmware update for your model that addresses this problem. Please follow the steps below on how to successfully update your printer.
  1. Open the printer cover to remove the printhead. The carrier will come to the center automatically. Once you've taken out the printhead, close the printhead latch and close the printer cover.
  2. Proceed with the firmware update. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark S600 Series Firmware Update.
  3. Once the update is complete, re-insert your printhead. Close the printhead latch and check for errors.
  4. If no error appears, open the printer cover again to re-insert the cartridges.
  5. If that doesn't help, I would highly recommend that you contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance

INSTALLED NEW INK IN X3470 AND SAYS COVER OPEN WHEN IT IS CLOSED


Look at either side of the flip-up cover. While I am not familiar with Lexmark printers, I have seen this problem in the HP 6800 & 6900 series. There should be on one side (my guess would be closest to the 'rest' position of the ink carriage) some sort of switch to detect cover position. In the HP printers, the switch is 'down' when the cover is open; so, if the little lever that would lift the switch to the 'up/closed' position if broken, the switch stays in the down position and the printer thinks the cover is open. Look for something along these lines.

You must download and install the updated software from Internet, follow instructions below,

Click here:Official Lexmark Drivers and Software

A web page will open, follow instructions, select model, select operative system etc., and click on download .
Chose to download the file in my documents when asked.
After downloading, find the file,double click on the file ,then if you get in troubles, follow the instructions below to reset and reinstall drivers:

  • Unplug printer USB.
  • Go to control panel >> installed printers in Windows and remove (delete ) any installed printer from printer list.
  • Download driver from website, or use the disk and run the install file.
  • Follow driver installation wizard.
  • Plug back printer when prompted from installation wizard.
Note:some printer does not work on Vista, if you do not find any driver download for Vista on your model page, that means your model is not Vista compatible.
