Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

Wireless router not connecting

I have a Linksys wireless-G 2.4GHz Broadband router model WRT54GL. when I connect it to the power source, the power LED blinks, Ethernet LEDs 1 to 4 and Internet LED goes on without any connection to them, even when I connect the internet cable it doesn't show a sign of connection and I cannot find the wireless router from my systems enen the ethernet cable doesn't connect my systems. I tried using the reset buttom but it doesn't work the LED are still on without a connection and the power LED blinks, the CISCO Systems light doesn't work.

How do I solve this?

The router shares the internet directly from a pc that connects the internet and has been working perfectly before now. I am unabla to get http://192.168.0.1 now the problem started.

I have followed the instruction of jagalbraith respectively. After holding the reset button for 45 seconds while it was powered on and unpluging it for 30 seconds and powered on, the same issue still surfaced, the power LED blinks, Ethernet LEDs 1 to 4 and Internet LED goes on without any connection to them, I tried connecting a PC to one of the switch ports and did ipconfig /release But no connection was found. Is there anyway to do a reset with the reset button as holding the reset button doesn't casue any change.

My router is not connected to a model but to connect other systems on the network from my a computer on the network. I tried connecting it to a different computer still the same problem.

Holding the reset button doesn't reset the router. I do not know if there can be other way to reset the router. When I had the same problem before using the reset botton as jagal stated solved the issue but this one holding the reset button does nothing.

Sounds to me like there is some other bridging going on here.

    1) Does your linksys router plug into a modem?

ANS: No modem in my network. The internet port in my router connects to a pc with windows xp install connected directly to the internet. The router shares the internet connection from the PC to other computer via the router wireless connection.

    2) Do all of the computers in the office plug into the router?

ANS: Two laptops connet via a wireless connection to the router
    We will start there.

Now the router doesn't connect either the laptops via its wireless connections or the PC via the internet port.

All the LEDs in the router are on the power LED blinks even without a network cable pluged to the router. The reset button does not solve the issue.

when I connect the router and modem as the instructions say. When I put the CD in to configure it, it says it is connecting to the router. I have made sure that both the modem and router were turned off, then connected the wiring, plugged them back in and tried to get it to connect, no luck.

Jagal is giving you the right info but lets try this.

Can you connect your model to another computer.

Lets see if that the culprit.

What type of modem are you using (make and model number)?

Sounds like there is three things going on here.

Is the modem plugged in the router?

are you able to get into http://192.168.0.1

    and setup the wireless?

Be sure that your Modem plugs into the WAN port on the router.

1. Unplug your cable/dsl modem power
2. Unplug your Router power
3. Plug in your modem power ... wait for it to come completely up.
4. Plug in your WRT54G Router and wait for it to come up.

Press the reset button on the back of the router for 45 seconds while it is powered on. This will do a factory reset. Wait for it to come up. Then unplug it. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. Let it come all the way up.

Plug a PC into one of the switch ports on the router.
Now do an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /refresh in the command prompt of your PC to get an IP address from your Router.

Now you should be able to ping 192.168.0.1 and you should be able to get into the the configuration utility by putting http://192.168.0.1 in a browser. The username should be blank and the password will most likely be admin (all lower case).

Be sure to lock down your wireless SSID so neighbors and people passing by are unable to connect to your access point and do bad things on your network.

The connection cannot detect the wireless

Your computer/laptop needs the encryption key that is in the router's wireless settings before it can connect to the wireless router..
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
Connect your DSL or cable modem to the D-Link router.

Please
  1. Verify File and Print Sharing is installed for the wireless network card on each computer.
  2. Try pinging each computer.
  3. Try doing Start, Run, and in the browse line type \\and the ip address other computer. For example, if computer B has the ip address of 192.168.1.3 from computer A, do Start, Run and type in \\192.168.1.3 to see what that brings up.

In your internet explorer address bar, type in the ip address of 192.168.1.1 and see if it asks you for a password.

If that isn't it, try 192.168.1.245.

The default password is admin. No username.

Also, go to www.linksys.com and they have free chat support and can walk you through this issue.
