I have tried the first button on the monitor but it doesn't seem to be working so I cannot reset it back to the the factory defaults

I have the same problem, for almost six months I have tried to deal with this. I have tried it all. The menu button does not work. Besides the square with the padlock (that's there always), sometimes I have a larger black rectangle with Dell monitor info flashing on and off.

The question has not been answered.

Mr. Dell Specialist...perhaps we need to make it clearer. ALL buttons are locked except for the power button. There is no scrolling. There is nothing...nada...nyet.

So can you try again and tell us how to get rid of that incessant purple pad lock?

My monitor is doing exactly the same thing as described be the others, I have tried everything, nothing works, no buttons work except the power button.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I am getting a purple out of range box on my screen that floats from top left to bottom right that I can't get rid of.

It is because your Windows monitor settings are OUT OF RANGE if you can boot into Windows normaly just rite click on the desktop, chose properties, than settings tab (if it's XP), go to advance, than monitor, look for frequency refresh rate, change to 60Hz, than save, than reboot

if you can't boot into Windows, try booting in SAFE MODE by pressing (F8) key at startup than do the above starting at -- rite click on the desktop...

Good luck!

I need help from anyone when i turn on my computer and log on a box in the middle of my screen and says no signal and about 3-5min later it gose away and the screen turns off make a little beb and turns...

Check your monitor's cables. There might be a loose VGA cable (or whatever interface you use). If that's not the case then your PC's VGA adapter (or graphics card) might be faulty. Get it repaired or replaced. If it's the on-board VGA solution, then you could just purchase a cheap graphics card.

Bad control chip, mine has the same problem. If under warranty - send it in. I just tossed mine and bought a different LCD.
