Under the agitator you have what is called (agitating dogs). The agitator will have to be removed. The top should spin off, you will be able to look down into the agitator and see a bolt. Remove this bolt and the agitator can be pulled out. The agitators are small pieces of plastic with small teeth. These teeth get worn out over time or if the washer is overloaded. When the agitator free spins one way the teeth grab a (gear) on agitator and this is how you get the washing action (agitating). These dogs are easy to replace and cost about $5. Is the upper part of the agitator supposed to spin with the lower part? It spins freely when I turn it, but doesn't spin when spin cycle is activated during a cycle.

You have bad agitator dogs . Easily replaceable and inexpensive . Remove the center bolt holding the agitator on and seperate the 2 agitator pieces . You will see 4 teardrop looking pieces ( dogs ) . Replace and your done .

Agitator seems to not turn right. Is there a gear that could be broken?

I'll assume that this is a standard direct drive, top loading washer. Try manually turning the agitator counter-clockwise, it should catch. if the top of the agitator spins freely, you will need to replace the agitator dogs. Part#80040 Just remove the agitator cap, (or softener dispenser) and remove the inner cap and seal. There should be a 7/16th bolt that holds the agitator onto the tranny shaft. Remove bolt and pull the agitator up from the base. Once you have the dogs, you'll see where to go from there, it's hard to explain on a post, but is actually rather simple to perform. The doga are what catches back against the grain to create the agitating action. Hopefully that's all it is.

Agitator not turning when washing Whirlpool ultimate II super quiet mod # LSQ9264HZO, everything else seems fine, spins rinses, drains, replaced timer disconnected lid switch wired together besides that no...

This is a common problem among Whirlpool washers. There are 4 dog leg shaped plastic cogs fitted inside your agitator and these are worn or broken there won't allow the top of the agitator to grip to the lower portion. therefore getting little or no agitation. the part number for the dogs are 80040 and come in a package of 4. if there is more damage done to the agitator dog support, you may need to replace the cam as well which is part number 285809. both are very low in cost and involves only taking the agitator , which can be done by taking the dispenser cap off and removing the 5/16 screw. after this you can take an old belt or similar rope type object, and remove the agitator. some agitator require a lot of force to remove but persistence is the key. Hope this helps.

Whirlpool Quiet Wash II center pole doesn't spin.

No. This is commonly caused by worn agitator dogs. The upper portion of the agitator (called the auger) has a cam assembly with small agitator dogs that act as a clutching mechanism to drive the auger during the wash cycle. They wear out over time and need to periodically be replaced. The following link explains what they are and how to replace them:

The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase replacements at for about $5. For a little more you can purchase the entire cam replacement kit which includes the dogs, cam, seals and washers.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

The ***** part of the agitator is supposed to ratchet in the clockwise direction. this is normal. If you can spin it in either direction (turned off) then you need a set of agitator dogs.

Agitator moves slowly on wash cycle/not at all on spin cycle

it sounds like the dogs are worn. try twisting the agitator post by hand,it should move freely in one direction then lock up going the other.its a pretty easy fix if they are.pry off the top of the agitator post off then remove the cap inside, there is a bolt that holds the post down.i'm pretty sure it's 7/16 in. once the bolt is loose, lift the whole agitator out of machine and with your hand inside post turn it upside downand let the dog holder slide how the dogs fit into the holder, replace with new dogs and reverse the removal process.
if the machine wont spin, check the lid switch. thats usually the cause of a no spin situation.other than that a wet vac is your best bet.hope that helps.
