HD52W59 Convergence problem

I replaced the fusible link fl231 and tv worked fine for about 2 hours then fuse blew out again. Suspect a faulty power supply but would need a schematic to trace to discrete components. Would you know of a place to get a hold of one or is there one available for download. Any help would be appreciated!

I'll check the solder connections on the flyback transformer. I didn't bother the transformer and just replaced the fuse after reading several posts on this site. Is it a common for the flyback transformer to go bad or mostly just due to poor solder connection?

Thanks for your help I appreciate any ideas you can give me to try, I still get a good picture after replacing the fuse and looks fine color and all. About 2-3 hours of run time the picture goes black and the RGB lines flatline horizontally in the center and the unit powers off and tries to power back on then quits. After a few seconds of being powered off the picture will come back on when powered up and the same bowed RGB lines appear with the convergence option missing in setup.

Thanks willtab!! I took your advice and re-soldered the flyback transformer connections along with replacing the blown fuse and so far the tv seems to be holding going on little more than a week of use so far. Hopefully this takes care of the problem! Thanks again!!

DId you solder the flyback transformer connections..... This is the main reason these fuses fail. THe flyback is the big black component next to the fuse. poor solder connection cause oscillations.. this fuse is only .4 amps whish dosent stand up to that well.. resolder these pins on the flyback.... the first time i replaced this fuse i failed to solder played well for 2 days then came back blown again

you still have a picture? the flyback will fail sometimes along with the horizontal output transistor .. but if you still have a picture then this is not the problem.... it is the manufacturing process know as lead free solder that causes "rings" in the solder of these pins. while this fuse can blow for other reasons this is the only reason i have encountered at the shop for now. so good luck and hope this helps. if you need any more help let me know

i have found the reason for the fl231 fuse blowing is faulty solder connections on the flyback transformer is the main cause. I have came across only one bad signal board that cause this but this was very very rare 1 in 1000. This is a very specific fuse, .400 and it is recomended only to replace with exacte one. consult the fl231 problem in the tips and tricks section.

Fl231 fuse compatibility

yes, thats the replacement fuse for your set. However unless you have replaced the convergence power supply also chances are the fuse will blow again, as the power supply shorting is what causes the convergence to get out of alignment and it will then blow FL231 thereby removing the convergence option from the menu.

RCA HD52W59 Convergence issues after some repairs.

Hello rmolen,

This is an indication that the convergence amps are drawing too much current which has an effect on the power supply and thus killing your sound by removing or lowering the voltage supplied to that stage, finally this results in the blowing of the fuse. I would suggest that you change the convergence amplifiers and the biasing resistors (All of them) and then see if this corrects your problem (I believe it will). Also get a schematic of the TV and try to find out how the power supply relates the sound module and the convergence module, they might share a common power bus, or the voltage regulator for the sound also feeds the convergence board.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Did you chane your ICs recently? If so did you replace the resistor near the ics? These resistors often fail and if you replace the convergence ICs without replacing them they will take out the new ICs quickly.
