Most dryer knobs just pull straight off. be sure to get all the pieces off the shaft(small black spring clip on some??). new knobs are easily obtained from any parts house and push on.

if the shaft broke off, you will need to replace the switch. that can be accessed from the back of the console. unplug unit and remove plate on back of console, switch is usually screwed in from front or rear, sometimes they have a tab and twist in. you need to examine closely to determine method used to attach to console then when removed examine condition of switch and knob.

Hello I have a general electric dryer model DBSR463EG6WW serial number TR775112A and was wondering how do I bypass the start switch because it is broken

please there is no need to start your dryer without the switch. you can easily replace the switch yourself just follow this instructions below to replace your switch. things you will need are philip and hex and nut screwdrivers, putty knife and Replacement "start" switch. then Disconnect the dryer from the electrical outlet. Slide the dryer out from the wall and disconnect the dryer vent from the dryer's back panel.
    1. Loop a piece of string behind the "Start" button and pull forward on the string to pop the knob off the switch's post.

    2. Access the interior of the control panel. Depending on your model of dryer, there are several ways to access the interior of the control panel. On older dryers, there will be an access panel along the back of the control panel that can be removed once all of the retaining screws have been removed. On newer dryers, the control panel is held in place by screws in the front or spring clips. Remove the plastic end caps on the control panel and remove the screws underneath. If your dryer has no end caps, slide a putty knife under the corners of the control panel and lift up on the knife to release the clips. Rotate the control panel toward the rear of the dryer to access the interior.

    3. Unplug the wires from the switch by sliding them off the contact terminals on the switch. Make a note which wire connects to which terminal so you can easily connect them to the new switch.

    4. Press the release tab to unlock the switch and slide it out of its socket. If you have an older dryer, remove the retaining screw to remove the switch. Slide a new switch into the socket and press it down until the release tab locks into place. If you removed a retaining screw, replace the screw. Reconnect the wires.

    5. Rotate the control panel back down on the dryer or replace the rear access panel. Replace the knob and reconnect the dryer vent. Plug the dryer back into the electrical outlet.

When we go to turn the dryer on it makes a buzzer sound, how so we make the dyer work?

Is it the same buzz that goes off when the load is finished? The knob may be broken, if so what you need to do is pull it off and see if the handle knob is really turning the smaller knob, if it isn't, replace the knob.
If the knob is fine then you have a problem with your controls and you need someone with electrical experience to look at it.

DRYER RUNS IN OFF POSITION BUT NOT ON CYCLE POSITION

It could be that the knob came off and someone pushed it back on in the wrong location. Knobs are keyed so they should only go on one way, but since most knobs are plastic and can get messed up fairly easily, you might want to pull the knob off and see if that is the issue.

You might need to get a new knob if yours has gotten a broken socket where it slips onto the control shaft.

Hope this helps. Best Regards!

I bought a frigidaire dryer knob to replace the broken one. But how do I get the knob on without hammering it and cracking the knob and stem? the stem on my frigidaire dryer is broken - i have the knob...

You will want to take out the screws on the back of the dryer behind the control panel. Once off you will see all the wires and such connecting to the timer and the knobs. Make sure you disconnect the power first before digging in in there. When you find the spot that your knob goes take that control part off and place your knob in. Once you have the back off you will see how it goes on. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me and please let me know if this was helpful to you. Good luck and glad I could help.

try to unplug the dryer for 5-10 minutes this should reset the board. if not take off the bottom panel and test the resistance of the thermistor ( the tech sheet is in the bottom there or up top)
