Our dryer makes a loud clunky sound, must be out of balance, how do you open it to repair

Sounds like either the timing belt snapped or you broke a con rod....check to see if the belts are still intact....

sounds like the drum isnt balanced. either make sure appliance is properly balanced on the floor or make sure you are not overfilling the tub.

there are bushings or rollers at the front of the drum that do wear out this will cause the thumping as it turns. A local appliance repair place may be able to source out new guides for you.

Can you push the drum up and down. If so then the main bearing has gone bad and needs to be replaced. This is the only metal on metal rubbing you will get unless the machine is off balanced. This is caused usually by doing to heavy of loads and wearing out the bearing

I'll bet the drum is cracked.

• it sounds like a bad roller. if you know how to take the drum out of the dryer then you can do this repair. no special tools are required.
