Question about Dell PC Desktops

IE and Firefox stop responding

I am using Vista. Why are these browsers crashing? How can I fix this problem?

Thank you for the suggestion. I shut down each night for that reason.

I ended up paying the Geek Squad to help me remotely. It appears that all of those toolbars like Google, Yahoo, Mahalo etc. were the issue. Both browsers, IE and Firefox are back to working fine. So, disabling them is the answer to this problem.

    Thanks

Try completely powering down and restarting the computer once in a while. If you always just go into sleep / stand by mode, some software will eventually stop working properly. A friend of mine had the exact same problem, and after I had her reboot (not just sleep/standby) it worked just fine.

I keep getting a message that "a problem caused the program to stop working properly. Windows will close program and notify you if solution is found." Its Internet Explorer and no solution has come!

Hi
To be quite honest I have found that this happens quite a lot with IE. If you want or need to continue using IE, then make sure that you have the most up-to-date version by checking with the MS website here:
Internet Explorer
and if you are not fully up-to-date, download and install the latest version for your Windows version.
Alternatively you could use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, both of which are more stable than IE. If you go to the google search homepage, there is a link to download chrome there and you can download Firefox from here:
Download Firefox Free Web Browser
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

I have IE 9 and now F ace book won't work at all. my husband got a message about a Toolbar widget not being enabled. I think he clicked on it. still won't load. Mcafee detected no virus...how can this

Vista...baaaaad. That said you really should stop using IE altogether and use Chrome or Firefox. Both are faster than old broken IE9.

If you wish to stick with it, you should install and update one of the above alternate web browsers and verifiy that the problem is with IE-only.

If YES, then download and scan with either Superantispyware (superantispyware.com) or Malwarebytes (malwarebytes.org)
Both are free to residential users. Likely you have picked-up a slight cold rather than a full virus....

If NO, then post back here.

My computer refreshes by itself

Unless, you have Gdata, Bitdefender, Avira, Fsecure, Kaspersky, Norton, it's not good enough.

Try running windows update, to see if there are IE updates.

Go to Bitdefender, they have a free online scanner.

http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

Get Firefox, Firefox is a safer faster browser then IE.

You can use add-ons on firefox that will block add's, stop pop ups, better then IE.

If you get Firefox, go to youtube, if you can't watch a video, you will see the download Adobe flash player in the video window.

How to set goggle as default browser

Google is a search engine not a browser.
You can run any browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox and get them to default to Google as the default search engine or you can save Google as a Favourite in IE or a Bookmark in Firefox.

To set Google as the default home page in IE.
Open Internet Explorer then enter www.google.com when Google page opens then Click on Tools - Internet Options
In the General tab click Use current.
Now when you open IE then Google automatically opens.

To set Google as the default home page in Firefox.
Open Firefox then enter www.google.com when Google page opens then Click on Tools - Options
In the General tab click Use current pages.
Now when you open Firefox then Google automatically opens.

If you are using any other browsers then setting up Google as the default page is configures in a similar method.

Adobe flash plug in has been crushed

If the flash player has crashed once, then it may not be a problem but if this is occurring repeatedly, then try to upgrade your flash player. If your flash player is up-to-date, then it may be the incompatibility between the flash player and the web-browser. In that case, try to have both the most recent updated browsers, like Mozilla Firefox 4, Google Chrome 12 or IE 8 or IE 9 and corresponding updated flash player.

To download latest softwares, click on the links below:
  1. Adobe Flash Player IE (for Internet Explorer, Avant, etc)
  2. Adobe Flash Player Non-IE (for Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, etc)
  3. Mozilla Firefox 4 RC
  4. Google Chrome 12 Beta
If you use Firefox or Chrome as browser, then Flash Player for Non-IE is sufficient, but still I recommend you to install both the IE and Non-IE flash players.

Hope this helps,
Regards,

When i load the IE I can see nothin at all

Ok well first we must ensure there are no "Other" problems. Download the Firefox Browser, or Opera www.mozilla.com, www.opera.com download and install and use this to check to see if it is a Browser problem of a PC problem. If there is no problem connecting with Firefox, then I suggest that you do a repair install or an Upgrade of your Internet Explorer, This will prob fix your problem.. Really don't use IE anyway use FF or Opera, another good one is Google Chrome... I love it.
