Kenwood kvt-911dvd disc error for dvd play?

Just got this unit for my truck and it plays cds great but insert a dvd from g rated to r rated and it says disc error on the screen. I look it up in the manual and it says under disc error that it is an unreadable disc inserted. I tried 20 different dvds and they all say the same thing any sugestions? Thanks - Ken

Check if you have a dvd rom or writer
then go online and install VLC media player
http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc/
try playing your DVD
it will run as for playing dvd you need a dvd running software
si VLC player is made to play DVDs

there may be a problem in the lens, you can try a dvd lens cleaner or contact the dealer.. get it repaired somewhere.

If it happens always with same disk (or disks), then the disk is either dirty, scratched , or faulty.
If disk is dirty (sometimes you cannot even see it but they are dirty), try cleaning the disk with cold water, and rinse well with a soft cloth, ensuring not to leave wet spots or cloth hairs.
Done this try the disk again.
If it is not the disk, then usually it is the lens. In this case you will have same problem with majority of your cds.
To clean the lens start using a dvd cleaner and cleaning solution. This is a mild way to clean lens, often it is not enough.
The complete lens-cleaning procedure involve opening the defvice, acessing the lens pickup, and manually cleaning the lens with cotton and isopropyl alcohol.

As simple solution you can also try blowing some canned air on the lens. If this and the lens cleaning kit does not work, you should remove the cover, access the lens pickup, and perform a direct cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and soft cotton.
If the lens is not dirty but scratched or opaque you may need to replace the lens pickup, in this case the job may not be worth.

What is error 12

That is a Pioneer error saying that it can't read the disc. It could be bad discs or a dirty, scratched or misadjusted head or lens. I hope it's bad discs for your sake. Repairing and adjusting the unit could cost more than $100. Not really worth it for such an old unit. If you know the discs are good, you can try a CD lens cleaning disc available at stores like Walmart (dvd dr lens cleaner, Model#: 7010500, $14.88).
Hope this helps!

TOC eror

The TOC error is the same error seen on computer disks, TOC is the table of content, this has to be read before the the unit will know the details of tracks etc......

If every disk inserted (not just burned discs) has this error, the laser is faulty or out of alignment. Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question.
