This is typical of HP Cameras. Try using rechargeable batteries or remove the batteries when you are not using the camera.

This camera is using up the batteries too fast. There is something wrong here.

What type of batteries are you using?
I have only found ONE battery that is worth buying for a digital camera, any make or model. I've always had HP cameras, but my last purchase was the Canon A1100 IS. It is amazing, but all that power makes it hungry too.

I have had nothing but success with the BLUE Energizer LITHIUM batteries. They run about $5-6 for a two-pack or $10 for a 4-pack at WalMart. We get an amazing amount of shots out of these. The only time I totally drained them quickly was when I took several movies. I always date the batteries with a sharpie to see how long they last. I regularly get from 1 month to 3 months, depending on the quantity of shots.

Other batteries, even alkaline, are useless. I tried the Duracell copper tops, and got maybe 8 shots before they died! : P
So, we now only buy the blue energizers, with no regrets at all!
(And the neat part? Those blue batteries have more juice left after your camera too. Once they are not powering up the camera properly, they can be used in other things that take AA, like small flashlights, etc, and it can still power those items as well. We have a beard trimmer that I never have to buy batteries for - I just use the used camera batteries and we get even more use from them.)

Truly, I am a loyal BLUE Lithium fan for life.

In camera ,which will be better lithum battery or alkalide battery.and what is the benifits?

Alkaline batteries are available *everywhere* for relatively short money. When they die, you probably won't have to go very far for replacements. A lithium battery usually lasts significantly longer than traditional alkaline batteries.

When a lithium ion type dies - you'll have to find a place to plug a charger in to recharge before using again. Since it's not always easy to find a place to do this - and due to the time it takes to recharge - it's wise to have at least two sets of lithium batteries. One can charge while the other is in use in the camera.

Lastly, at anywhere from $20 to $80 a pop, lithium batteries can be cost prohibitive.

Short battery life

Use the best name brand batteries you can find. Energizers and Duracell work best. Chance the size of your pictures to the smallest you can. At 300 X 300, you can still make 8 X 10 enlargements clearly. The larger the pic, the more power it takes to process it.

My Kodak EasyShare Z712 IS problem is with the batteries. I'm using the Kodak Digital Batteries and they will only last about 30 minutes..even when I just use the viewfinder instead of the LCD. My son can...

I've had the exact same problem with mine. My wife was ready to buy a new one, but I didn't want to giveup the nice optical zoom on the Z712 IS. Checking out the web and a friend of ours with the same camera, it appears to be a common problem. My last time to try the camera, I took 19 pictures on brand new batteries and they died. The Kodak site doesn't really acknowledge a problem with the camera, but I found the latest firmware (1.06) and just walked around the house taking pictures with flash. At 25 pictures, I'm still going strong. Definitely worth a try to see if it fixes your problem: http://www.kodak.com/global/mul/service/downloads/DownloadFile.jhtml?locsvcsEntryPath=10807&product=EKN033025&operatingSystem=windows_xp&lang=en&type=firmware&downloadId=dln00179_file1&variant=false&pq-path=14091

Camera says batteries are dead.

Either these batteries are dying of old age, or it sounds to me that these are either not official Nikon EN-EL9 batteries, either that or that they have been charged on a third-party charger.  Using cheap alternative batteries can be extremely dangerous as they often do not have the safety circuits that genuine batteries do.

Unfortunately this camera is very bad for battery life because the zoom lens itself takes up alot of power. I would have the same problem with putting fresh batteries in and they would only last a couple of minutes.
I went to Blacks and asked their opinion and they suggested a Lithium Ion battery which came with the charger.
The charge only takes 30 minutes and I have been using my camera all week and the batteries are still going strong!
The price for the pack and charger together was a about $29 and it was totally worth the money

AA's only last for 30-40 shots and should only be used as a very last option.
