Make sure that gas control knob is set to ON (counterclockwise).
Make sure that ON/OFF switch is ON.
Check that temperature setting is high enough to call for heat.
Make sure pool pump is running and water is flowing to unit.
If not above there is a diagnostic procedure on page 33 of manual at:

Bad thermistor probably. It is not a very expensive part.

What you probably need, you may be able to install yourself and save some$$$. It's call a thermocouple. It's a long thin tube that has a probe bulb at one end and snakes it's way back to the gas regulator.14 years is plenty of service to get from one of these.Don't laugh, but often times you can find a good one on anold gas heater in the metal pile of your local dump. It's worth a peek. If not get one of your heat and cool contractor friends drunk, then ask him to pick one up at the gas company. Town laws vary greatly from town to town. Here in Provincetown we can hardly change a light bulb without a permit...lol. Good luck, I have faith in you. Thanks Dana.

The transformer would be the most likely cause. It is inside the chassis inside the junction box where the power comes into the heater. Check the secondary side for 24 VAC. It is likely not going to be there.

If so there is a factory kit that has a power vent that retails for about $770 MSRP
We sell those at my company for a little less than that if your interested.
