Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

BLACK SCREEN When I turn on the laptop, I can hear it startup and suddenly stop. Nothing is displayed on the screen. I've tried using the brightening the screen method, the Alt + F10, and the holding down of the F2 button at startup. How do I get into setup to have the CD drive run first before the HD? What other options do I have and can try with this problem. Oh! I also tried hooking up another monitor just to see what it displays and it says "NTLDR is missing - Press any key to start" When I press any key nothing happens either!! THANKS FOR ANYTHING!!

As for the screen it sounds like you have an inverter that is burned out in the screen and needs replaced.

the error ntldr is missing actually is repeating as you push any key.

you should first work on replacing /repairing the screen.
look on ebay for an inverter for this model,

Based on what you are describing it sounds like you your mainboard has failed, and it will need to be replaced. Even if it is just the video component that has failed you would still need to replace the entire mainboard as the graphics are made onto the mainboard.
if your notebook is less that 1 year old, return it and use your warranty to get it repaired. Have a nice day! tc

Laptop goes blank on startup but still display logon screen

Have you upgraded the OS? At boot start tapping the F-2 key, do not wait for the Dell screen. Take a look at this forum:http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-95/dell-s-bios-startup-screen/85976.html

After booting up all I get is a black screen

Try this:

If you're booting up the device and it goes thru the Post test and then goes to a black screen this usually means your OS has crashed.
You will need your Operating system or Recovery Disk.
I hope you've backed up your data and files.

Try this:

Windows 7

Laptop will not display screen although is turned on.....

I assume you are saying the screen is totally black, not blue. If it is totally black there can be a large number of causes. It is hard to give one simple answer. It could relate to the brighteness of the screen, the display, the logic board, the graphics card or even a problem relating to updating Apple firmware, You could try some simple things first.1) If the lighting on your computer is accidentally turned all the way down, your screen will be black! To turn the brighteness up, push F2 on the top of your keyboard and click until the lighting improves and you see the screen. If your display stays black it could be an indication that you just need a new Display. They do wear out. 2) Another thing to try is to start the computer in Safe mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US As you push the power button hold the shift key down. This can sometimes help resolve issues relating to startups. Also, if your screen stops being black it is an indication there is nothing wrong with your display. 3) You could try resetting the PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379, This can also help with a startup issue. 4) Some specific models of Macbook Pro computors have issues caused by the NVIDIA graphics card, which Apple knows about and apparently will repair, possibly free of charge. My suggestion if none of this helps is to take it to a Genius bar at an Apple store for them to troubleshoot. That, in itself, costs nothing. Other suggestion search with google for further answers from other Mac owners!

Powers up but black screen shows

1st - Try pressing <Fn> + <BrithnessUP> keys a few times, (on HP <Fn> key is between <Ctrl> key and <Windows> key, <BrightnessUP> key is <F8> key and <BrightnessDown> key is <F7> key. If nothing happens try the 2nd one.
2nd - Plugin external monitor, (type and size doesn't matter). Turn on your laptop. If you can see desktop on the external monitor, your drivers are o.k., The problem is your laptop display, NOT the graphic chip.
