Question about GE Air Conditioners

1 Answer

I purchased a window air conditioner, Model # ASTO5LKSI and installed it this morning in my kitchen window. I heard the pinging sound discribed in the instruction book and read that sound is O.K. due to humidity. My question is: When I went outside to check out the pinging noise, there was a white milky liquid running out. What is this and do I need to be concerned?

I would return it and get another. The only thing that supposed to be coming out is water.

Need a manual to download for model FAH0818R1T

Good Morning Friend, this is Z. I am happy to assist you!

I see that you are looking for the manual of your Frigidaire air conditioner, FAH0818R1T; however, it appears above-listed model number is invalid. The serial, which lists your model number, is typically located behind the front grill by the air outlet or on the side of the cabinet. In the meantime, I have located the Owner's Guide to a similar air conditioner, model number FAH08ER1T1. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you!

LG does not currently have an extender panel. However, call Vance Baldwin/Encompass at 1-866-779-7906, as they may can help you with that.

As far as noise is concerned: Generally speaking, most noises heard from the air conditioner are normal sounds of operation. Most of the time, noises are muffled during the day by activity in the home, but heard at night when it is more quiet.

Vibrating Noise? This is most likely the result of improper installation. Check that the unit is secured properly in the unit. Make sure the filter and the front grille are attached properly.

Hissing/Gurgling Noise? At the ON/OFF operation is caused by the refrigerant flowing inside the air conditioners sealed system. THIS IS NORMAL. This sound is a little louder for 2~3 minutes when the unit is first turned on. This is the sound of the compressor start-up. THIS IS NORMAL.

Beeping sound when control settings are selected/changed? THIS IS NORMAL. This noise is a signal that the control panel settings have been changed.

Pinging Noise? THIS IS NORMAL. This is the result of moisture in the base pan being picked up by the fan (called a slinger fan) and thrown against the condenser. This helps to discharge the heat and make the unit cool more efficiently.

Is the unit installed in an enclosed are? A unit enclosed by many walls is likely to produce more noise as the sound waves will be reflected and echoed.

Once the room temperature is met, the compressor should turn off automatically. But, the fan may run for several more minutes.

I hope this helped you. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

its the fan hitting the shroud, look inside for the fan hitting anything and check for the copper lines vibrating against each other, also, it could be the plastic front vibrating, put your hand on the front to see if you can stop it,

Hi; Try purchasing an up right portable ac unit. Then all you need to do is vent the hot air tube out a convienant window or dryer duct. Needs to be at least 12,OOO BTU. I size my installs to 400 sq. ft. per ton(12,000 btu)

probably, check to see if the condensate is properly trapped, high static units sometimes require a trap to drain correctly, (it may be internal)

Through the wall vs. window installation

window mount doesn't have to extend out on the back to clear the side /top intake vents because a window is about 2" thick,
but a wall mount has to have about 6 to 8 " clearing before the intakes vents can be exposed. you can't have your intakes buried in the wall.
in short if you see about 8 " of dead metal in the center area (just behind the window sill) then you can mount it in a wall as it will protrude far enough to clear the side /top intakes.

a sleeve just gives you a way to balance / attach to the outside wall

Through the wall vs. window installation

I just purchased an alleged "window mount" air conditioner with the closest dimensions to the existing model. Do these mount as through the wall as well? My current opening = 18 x 26" the new purchase is 16 27/32 x 26.

There are 2 different types of window air conditioners – there are the window type of which will fit in a window that opens top to bottom and there is the slide in model of which the actual air conditioner will slide into a metal sleeve which is very common in apartments. In either case you need to measure the inside of the metal sleeve and then give that to the air conditioner dealer and he will know what to do and there is also a POS (point of sale) @ the store of which will also assist you in the measurement of the A/C unit – the window unit you need to measure the opening of the window itself, I hope this was helpful
