Question about Toshiba TP50H95 50" Rear Projection Television

4 Answers

Toshiba tp50h95 Hi, I just picked up this used tv and it has a curved blue line running vertically in teh upper left hand corner. I replaced the convergence Ic's and still have the same problem. Could this be a tube problem or am I looking at something else? Thanks in advance for your help

When you go to the convergence menu to adjust the convergence the blue convergence is only out of alignment on the two upper left hand "icons". The rest of the icons are perfect. The blue does not ever change position.

I did recalibrate the convergence using the focus and convergence knobs and using the remote control. Neither fixed the upper left hand corner.

First of all I am comfortable with electronics repair (I repair cameras for a living). Secondly I am not really sure what you are talking about. My problem is with the blue being out of convergence on the upper left hand part of the screen no where else. The picture looks perfect otherwise. It is just that the blue is "bowed" out in a C shape in the upper left quarter of the screen. My question is if I need to replace the tube or another portion of the blue driver, and if so which part might it be. Thank You

sorry for getting back very late to you

First thing first - If still under warranty or if you have no
electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop
or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be
dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service.

If you don't have any repair experience my suggestions can only be
usefull to get a repair estimate, or in order to get more familiar with
these kind of problems, impress your local repair person etc...

actually tat effect(convergence) wil be in some red colour..(assuming tat its of red colour)

switch to test mode to check the red crosshair compared to the green or
blue - if it seems out of focus, open the set and mark the position of
the lense. Then adjust it to tighten the line.

    Find out why
the Red has shiffted(pin trouble). look for bad solder joints on that
board. Its also Possible that you have a failed component.

Try resoldering the STK Output IC's very carefully.
In a worst case scenario , you may need to change the STK that controls the Red Convergence .

Yank out the convergence board(the one that has several
controls) on it, then you will find a few contols that have RED PIN
(whatever). on them. Adjust them untill you get it right

bmarino18,

Initially I would have told you to replace the convergence ICs but after reading your post carefully I think you could have a problem with the convergence box. The lines can only be bent/curved for two reasons. One - the yokes are bad causing an undue strain on the power supply and not being able to correct the problem. Two - the convergence box/board is bad and is not holding the settings causing the curve you see. I cannot tell you which problem you have. You wil have to determine this. I do have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4273935-replace_digital_convergence_box which may be helpful.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Replace 120k resistor on the blue video output module. Resistor is located next to the blue video output transistor (has heat sink). If you replace it with a 1/2 watt carbon type, it will probably never happen again. I recomend the same resistor on the red and green video boards at the same time.

It sounds like intermittent loss of convergence and you should be able to cure that by taking a look at the convergence amps and locating one or more ring-cracked solder connections. Resoldering them should fix the problem. The amps are two STK392-110 Sanyo Ic's mounted to an aluminum heat sink. Remove that board and visually inspect where they solder to the foil side of the board.
Good Luck!

57H81Toshiba Blue Line not straight

You have a bad convergence output IC in the blue vertical circuit. On the bottom side of the chassis you will see a " V " printed by the heat sink. You will need to unsolder the heat sink and the 20 pins on the IC to remove it. Replace with STK 392-180 (sanyo) if possible or STK 392-150. Looking from the rear the heat sinks are big aluminum finned rectangles. There are 2 heat sinks one marked H and one Marked V. Even though you have a horizontal line your problem is in the vertical IC. Be sure to use a liberal dose of heat sink compound.

Hitachi 57SWX20B 3D Effect due to green light convergence problem

I'm trying to fix the issue on my 43FDX20B. So far, I'm able to move the lines up and down, but can't get the left/right motion to fix it. The attached link has the dynamic mode instructions, so you can correct this issue yourself.

http://home.comcast.net/~leebailey00/Hitachi_DCAM_Manual.pdf

The only thing I didn't have was the screen overlay jig the manual talks about. I decided to create one myself and use the screen as a beginning template. I went to our local hardware store and picked up some home window weather covering. The roll cost about $15, is a clear strong plastic and the template was very easy to create. I used a straight edge after I put dots on the plastic and measured the lines for being square and equal after I took it off my tv. Good thing is that if you don't like what you make the first time, you have a 25' roll to use to try again (ha).
