CD changer would not open and allow the CDs to be removed. I took off the side panels and was able to push the release arms from the changer but still the changer does not push the stack out. Makes a sound but shows "Error". Is there anything I can do to repair this function?

Re: cd mechanism doesn't work correctly
The CD loading mechanism is out of timing and needs to be rebuilt. This is not a repair to be done without a service manual as the timing involves re-assembly in a particular order and position. This unit should see a service shop for repair.

There's a possibility that the somewhere within the CD changer's mechanism there is something jamming the gears which allow it to open. I remember there was one time the CD changer wasn't opening and it turned out a cd was under in the CD changer's mechanism and I have no idea how it got there. In order to fix your problem you'd most likely have to open the unit and take the CD changer out but don't be afraid, opening and operating on this system is pretty much straight forward.
There is a small hole just above the door on most CD changers. Unwind a small paper clip and GENTLY push it into the hole. This should release the door, and let you look inside. Don't force it because you could damage it more than it is already.
