Question about AEG Lavamat 16810 Front Load Washer/Dryer

2 Answers

White lines I have an 16830 machine which causes white lines on dark washing. Its noisey too. This has gone on for some time now. its not the powder as we tried liquid and it still does it. Any ideas? We will have to change the machine otherwise, but its only about two years old.

Thanks for the comment. I had a repair man out a couple of weeks ago, and told him the machine was noisy, he suspected the bearings but wobbled the drum a bit and said they were fine. He suggested we tried a "boil wash" ie the hottest wash cycle possible, as the problem was probably caused by a build up of dirt in the machine that was not shifted by a normal low temp. wash. We tried this and had no reported problems for a couple of weeks, but have since had the same problem repeat. So I'm still not sure this is the fix. Do we have to do a boil wash every week? I've never had to before. He also said that this AEG is the cheap AEG range which is basically a Zanussi, interestingly. PS the repair man made NO CHARGE for his diagnosis. As this is not an isolated case, you might have thought there would be more feedback? Anyone?

Undesolved soaps and softener cause deposits like that. try about 2 hot washes per day for about a week to allow soaps to desolve, or drum must come out and be properly cleaned to stop white soap deposits.

We have a zanussi and it does the same we have also cleaned the drum and the draq and swapped to liquid but it still does it.

Our machine is also 2yrs old.

Sorry I dont have an answer but wanted you to know it is not isolated to AEG

White soap powder spots can be caused by using the incorrect washing powder or else you are overloading the machine.

White streaks on dark clothes

The white streaks are of soap build up on your machine tub. You can get ried of that by putting cascade dish washing soap in your washing machine and run full cylece , with out clothes.

Hi there
I wonder why "dark streaks" on white towels. I presume that you have made sure that there is no dirt flying around in the machine.
Try to let the machine go a circle -without any washing in it- just to see if the water takes color. There are also in the shops washing powder
that remove stains of different types.
Also powder for "only whites"
good luck

Been dealing with a smelly washer- tried the usual, bleach, vinegar, CLR.....it doesn't seem to have a lint trap.....is there one? where might it be?? Its old but works great other than this.....

Have you tried doing an empty 90 degree wash with white powder?
It does have to be white powder rather than colour powder or any kind of liquid, becauses only white powder has bleaching agents.
Add it helps if you leave the machine empty or clothes, towels etc.

Washing machine smells are usually caused by mildew, and a 90 degree wash with bleaching agents ought to help. If you do this about once a month it should keep the machine clear of mildew.

Smelly front loader washing machine. Clothes come out smelly too. How did I fix the problem???

You may have to do this 2 times and you will never find this in any manual. Use 1/4 cup "Powdered" Dishwashing soap and 1 cup of bleach in an empty tub cycle. Run a load of older dark clothes or non flammable rags FIRST after doing this the first time. If they come out with streaks run the cycle of 1/4 cup Powdered dishwashing soap and 1 cup bleach again. Same routine after 2nd cleaning cycle... dark clothes check for anything out of the ordinary. You should not have to do it a 3rd time unless your machine is really gunked up. Hopefully your using HE type soaps in your front loader. Non HE laundry soaps will cause the smelly machine also.

Thanks for using FixYa.

these machines are mean on water and you can open the door after wash starts
use good quality soap powder that suits front loaders and always wash at 40 deg or above
the black stuff is body fat that is still in machine called scud to me
also if you use conditioner in rinse cycle stop using that
it can cause same problem
