I have the same issue. When I put a cd in, the readout on the lcd screen is "no disc" and it won't play.

I have the same problem. My player worked properly for several years, and then it started to become temperamental: occasionally it would read "No Disc" because it wasn't recognizing the presence of the disc on the player. It started happening more and more frequently, and now I can hardly ever play a disc. One ******* posted as a solution, "Use electrical tape to cover the LCD screen and you won't have to see the 'No Disc' message." The sarcastic moron was too stupid to figure out that we wouldn't be posting these messages if the display read "No Disc" but the CDs played anyway.

I have the same problem in actually two cd players when I was trying to play a cd. I would think it may be the disk itself that is the problem. I tried lightly blowing canned air where the eye is. I also wiped my disc off and then it played in one cd player. May want to try these two things but I can't guarantee it will work. To me it almost seemed like there might have been some dust on the cd and then it congregated on the eye causing it to seem like there was "no disc" to the cd player, is a guess.

Hi I don't have a boom box, but i do know a little bit about CD players, and i think first the CD you are putting into the player as to be a proper bought CD, you know official CD, if you have done that, and still have the same problem, then its because the laser light is faulty, which basically means the CD player needs replacing.

I'm having the same problem, but the CD won't play. I'm not sure if yours was playing or not. So, if anyone has a real solution, I'm anxious to hear it.

Use electrical tape to cover the LCD screen and you won't have to see the "No Disc" message.

I have 2 boom boxes where cd's spin but no sound.

Its probably a lens failure, its quite common, try cleaning the lens,

if all else fails, try turning the unit upside down and load the disc, sometime this for some reason - resets the lens if slighty out but its not fact, just something i heard

Sony CFD-S33 boom box not playing cd's

HelloP
Insert a lens cleaning disc into the set and play it at leat three times. If the fault is due to accumulation of dust, the cleaning disc will clean it out and your set will be work again. If this does not help you, the laser pickup unit of the set is faulty, and should be replaced with same type and number. The lens cleaning disc can be bought from most of the electronic spare part selling shops at your twon, and won't cost more. OK.

Sony boom box model# CFD-So1 serial# 2813391 The CD part says there is no disc in. I tried several DISC WITH NO LUCK. Please help

This error "disc error", "no disc present" or " can\'t read cd". This all error are related to lens problem. If the lens is dirty or if the lens is got cracked or if the lens is getting blocked then it can happen. The lens is very thin glass material. You can say the lens is the "eye" of the unit. If the eye is dirty then it will not see the object. The unit needs to be opened carefully and this lens has to be checked. If any dust is collected clean it. Using the cd lens cleaner helps, but if the dust is got stuck hard or if its any other internal part then the lens cleaner will not help. If the lens is got cracked then the lens assembly has to be replaced.
You can use dry tissue to clean the lens. once the unit is opened. ------------ ------------- In most of the cases, this problem is not related to cd.But still get the cd checked in any other player too, this will confirm the fault. Also try other various cds in the boombox cd player and confirm. But if the cds not playing in other player too then its faulty cd.But this is very rare. Most probably the fault is related to boom box cd player. In the boom box cd player unit there are two main parts. One is cd spinning motor and other is cd reading lens(its also called "EYE" of the cd player). But many times the cd spins internally and does not play. If you can hear the noise of cd spin inside then its lens problem and not the motor. But if there is no spin noise in the unit then both lens and motor are to be checked. The motor is not spinning because its short/blocked or its connections are got loose. It has to be checked. The lens is not reading the cd, because its got dirty or its got cracked and faulty. The boom box cd player lens is made up of thin glass and its very delicate. Many a times dust gets collected on the lens, so the lens stops reading the cd and it do not play. Some times there is no dirt on lens but it gets cracked, if by mistake any pressure is applied on the unit or up-side down cd is placed in the tray or internal short circuit has occurred. These are few possibilities of lens not working. But in most cases its dirty lens causing this problem. SO open the tray by pressing the eject button, then unplug the unit from main power outlet, by keeping the cd tray open. Then take air blower and blow air in the unit. Please remove, if there is any cd in the tray while blowing air. Just blow air for few minutes. Then take a dry tissue and clan the cd placing tray externally and then reconnect the power and see, if that is helping or not. If the problem is same as before, then disassemble the unit and clean the lens manually by hand using dry tissue paper and then see if its helping. But take care while cleaning the lens with dry tissue you doesn't apply too much pressure on lens or any other parts. Also before removing any screw to disassemble the unit. Take a marker with you ready. Just mark the position of parts and screws before removing. If you have a cell phone with web cam in it then take a photo of the internal parts before moving any parts. Disassembly is not very hard but reassembling is not easy. So this pictures and marks with help you for reassembly. ----------But if lens is cracked internally then the lens assembly has to be replaced. If motor wires are loose then you can easily get it re-soldered by soldering machine. You can get it replaced from local cd /dvd player repair center. They have these parts with them. --------------- This should help. Thanks. Helpmech.

My sony boom box --the CD player occasionally stops for a few seconds ( music stops) and then restarts. I cleaned the head with a special CD cleaning system but that didn't help. How much do you think it...

hello im a tech at a sony svc center and should the laser be weak and not just dusty a repair would be impractical as our labor is 90$ before the part cost.. from the picture it looks like a top loader in which case you could manually clean the laser with a simple q-tip---gently in a circle clean the lens dry q-tip no liquid .. also does it fail with different discs? if only with one that disc might be scratched ,dirty etc..

Hello, my Philips AZ1145 shows "no disc" despite I put normal ou RW CD discs, old or new. Can I fix it or is it for garbage ?... Thanks

First try a normal shop purchased cd (you must have at least one laying about). If that works, GREAT it means that your boombox does not like cdrw discs (not many do unless specifically stated on the unit with a CDr/RW logo). If it still refuses to play ball, try a cd lense cleaner. If after all that, you're still getting nowhere, my guess is that the lense has had it's day. Although these can be replaced, on a unit like this it's actually cheaper to buy a new boom box.
Best of luck

I have a Sony 626 6 disk CD player / stereo. I have cleaned the disk plaer multiple times, but it continues to skip. It is about 5 years old, is out of warrenty but otherwise works great! Any suggestions...

The board that reads the discs is giong out, it is not readind the discs properly. Repairing it is sometimes more expensive than buying a new one.You did get alot of use out of it, right? You got your monies worth...

My Sony CFD SO1 keeps skipping/display light keeps flashing

That is an electronic problem. Probably a just-about-to-break cable in the motor of the CD drive, that sometimes causes a short and turns off the unit, or sometimes makes it to comport erratically and produce the buzzy sound. If you have electronics knowledge, then you may open and check the wiring harnesses. If don't, take it to your local electronics repair.
