TEMP STAYS ON 86
AND CAN NOT CHANGE THE SPEED OR ANY CONTROLS WORK

One day it was working the next day the controls completely stopped working I CANNOT shut it off unless I unplug it. I bought this only a month ago. The next day all of a sudden the thing kept beeping and changing temp without me touching it. Why is this doing this? The think I can just bring it back to the store well its too heavy for me so I need to have someone come help me remove it then return it and then bring it back home and reinstall. Not so easy so maybe someone has a solution rather than going through all of this.

Mine worked for a few months maybe 6 or so... then all of a sudden it started freezing up I think. I'm not sure why- it had no damage to it, just sat in the window working away, it was on energy saver set for 68- got shut off at night once the sun went down... turned on at 10am... Now when I use it, it will work fine for a few hours on "cool", if i put it on energy saver it starts going nutty in about an hour--then the temp goes nutty and it beeps on and off... I usually unplug it and let it sit for a bit. Or I will put it on "fan" on high and the air being sucked in is FREEZING-- like it was on COOL... So lowes' told me it was "freezing up" any ideas how to fix this problem? Help will be much appreciated! I'm ready to kick it right out of the window!

SOURCE: will not shut off

Sounds like a stuck relay on the unit itself. Maybe there is a short in the control wire that comes from the thermostat that activates the fan.

The thermostat probably has one hot wire at all times. The thermostat then chooses which wire to send the voltage down based on your selection. One of those wires is probably for the fan only. Make sure that it is in good condition (no bare, pinched or wires)

SOURCE: power will not turn on

If you know the outlet is good then you need to unplug the AC slide it out of the cabinet and see if the on off switch is working or if there is a loose or burned connection in the wiring circuit. check all wiring going and coming to capacitors and check to see if the continuity between the post on the control switch. There are many different models and each one has different features. So each one may be wired a little different. While you are inside the cabinet mart the wires going to compressor and where they connect. Let me know when you get to that point and I will lead you through the way to test the compressor. I don't think the compressor is the problem, I just want you check all connections for burns or bad connections, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Wash out outside coil from time to time. This is the most over looked part of window units. Take care not to spray water directly into fan motor. If not real humid in house check temp coming out of ac inside and make sure filter and coil are clean. run on high speed and the air should have good force. 20 to 30 degree temp drop of room temp should be about right. Much depend on outside temp and humidity and indoor humidity plus insulation factor of area. How many people are in the area and if you keep unit on day and night .

Digital temperature changes to 86 every time your set it to a lower temperature how do I fix this

If this set temp changes on its own then the circuit board has failed. Call a service tech or replace the unit. But this 86° might be the indoor temp, not the set temp? If I set my temp to 75°, then my temp goes to 86°, then the set temp (target temp) is 75° & actual room temp is 86°. The unit may not be working properly. Not sure if this helps.

Greetings!
I have the same model. Symptoms: Unit works great, Expect..when operating the menu buttons, they do don work properly. Example, pressing the up temp works great, but when pressing the lower temp button, the temp will go to 86 degrees F.
The problem is the control board. I took it out, clean it well with soapy water, rinsed with clean water, blew dry, took a tooth brush with alcohol and rebrushed again, rinsed with water, blew dry with compressed air.
Upon close inspection with a magnifying class, you can see the top of the board connections, did not solder well when manufactured. This is a hint... My problem was with R32 a 0804 resistor not being soldered properly during manufacture.
I replaced the resistor an all is well.

All the buttons have ground at the bottom of the switches, while the top is 5v volts dc with a standard meter, but I do believe all the keys are multiplexed, as seen when pressing one of the buttons, the display may show a different function changing.
Thus the most likely problem, will be with one of the 10K ohm resistors associated with one or more of the buttons. The resister is black in color with 103 written on the top, and is a 0804 size.
Hope this helps.
PS I have found no replacement of the control board, so I just fixed mine. If you have electronics friend, he/she might like the challenge.

Air conditioner will not stay on a selected temperature in cool mode for more than 3 seconds. For example, you can change the temperature to 70 degrees and it will blink for 3 seconds and move back to 88...

Don't you just hate electronics? The control might be sensing a bad thermostat. Especially considering that the manual says that the max temp is 86 (not 88).

Air condioner climbs to 86 degrees

These latest models rely on a cheap part called a thermister. Older ones used a mercury based cold control. A pc board sends a small amount of power through the thermister to judge the temp. As the temp changes the resistance inside the thermister changes. These el cheapo mexican thermisters are a dime a dozen. They have a quick connect. The thermister must be suspended near the coils but not directly on them or temps will not be judged correctly. Since a thermister is less than $10 bucks i would replace that first before calling someone.
