There is a pin hole, just below the cd-rom tray where you can use a paper clip to push inside. That will open it.

Very helpful. I recently recovered my pc and I needed to install software back onto the pc w/ CDs. Well the CD rom was stuck so I was able to get it open using a pin and pushing into the pinhole. after a few tries it manually opened. Thanks

SOURCE: CD ROM is jammed-wont open

This has happened to me. Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I'll place a CD or DVD in the tray and start to close it without making sure that the disk is seated flat in the tray. If it's ****-eyed the CD wil shatter when the tray is closed. The only way to remove the pieces inside the CD drive is to take apart the CD drive. Might be easier just to replace the unit. They run from about $25.00 to $75.00. One other note: You can try to open the tray manually by inserting the end of a paper clip into a small hole on the front bezel of the drive.

Cd rom drive door keeps opening up when in, it won't start cd

Try to this. Start - Right Click My Computer - Properties - Hardware - Device
Manager - CDROM - Properties - Disable. See if it Stops then enable it again.
Look at cdrom button it might obstructed or pressed in, try pulling and pressing. Or it could be a program/driver problem. Try restoring your pc the day before it happen.

> there is no icon for the CD-drive

Probably means that either:
* no electrical power is reaching the CD-ROM drive
* no "data" is being transferred to/from the drive
* the electronics inside the CD-ROM drive have "died"

Check the "power" and "data" connectors.

If necessary, replace the drive with a new CD/DVD reader/writer.
