I get the same 'no input signal' message then the monitor powers off. In addition, my optical mouse and the keyboard appear to have no power being suplied to them.

Erickalin - it sounds like your computer might have shut down and failed to come back up again. If you have access to another monitor, try hooking it up to your computer instead of the one you normally use (that won't stay on). If the second monitor won't stay on, the problem is your computer. You might have to take it to your local computer geek or computer store to get serviced. If your computer DOES work with the second monitor, you might need to have your monitor serviced or replaced. Good luck!

supposed2b, I think you have the same problem, although your computer doesn't even sound like it's powering up. Your power supply might be faulty or an internal component (CPU or memory most likely) of your computer has died. Double check your power connections and ensure that when you press the power button you hear the computer start up and the light on the front comes on (hopefully green or blue, but not yellow or red). Again, you might need to take your computer in for service.
Good luck!

My LG FLATRON W1934S was working fine last night. went to turn it on this morning and nothing happened. no orange or blue lights and it wasnt left in sleep mode either. what could be wrong with it?

I would suspect a problem in the monitor power supply, either a fuse or possible bad filter caps especially if you had to turn it on several times to get it on just before it failed.

If you are able to open it here is what bad caps look like:

I have a westinghouse monitor L1916hw and my monitor was fine last night but this morn when I woke up the lighting was flickering and then went black and when I turned it off and back on it will stay lit...

Get in the habbit of turning off LCD monitors when not in use. First, save electric. Second, save your monitor as LCD will burn up faster than a CRT. As for your problem, I would assume it's burning out and/or about to burn out...overheating. I would shut the entire system down, let is sit for 5 minutes and reboot everything. If it still fails to strike properly, it is probably toast.

3 inches of black on both sides of my monitor

I have seen this when using HDMI cables from the computer side.. The TV has a resolution that is not always full screen with TV shows. There is a setting that allows you to "zoom". My TV has 4 settings: normal, stretch and crop, stretch left and right, stretch and pinch (shrug).

Turns off after ONE second

like i put in another solution, this is probably the capacitors on the power board in the screen :)
easy fix if your okay with opening it and you can solder :)
theres 4-8 capacitors usually on the board, check if any have residue on them, or are fat (not normal cylinder)

no signal indicates a couple things... i suspect your computer isn't even booting up. reboot the computer while tapping the F8 key.... you should see writing on the screen... boot to safe mode. after it sucessfully boots up... reboot again... should be fine.

Similar monitor, similar problem. I actually had to dismantle the thing and replace a transistor on the mainboard.

If you're not into soldering and such, good luck.
