Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

OUR WESTINGHOUSE 32" HDTV WHICH COST US $1100 DOLLARS 2 1/2 YEARS AGO PICTURE TUBE OR WHATEVER IS IN THERE HAS FAILED AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS PROHIBITED BY COST TO REPLACE. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT A PRODUCT WITH A RESPECTED NAME LOKE WESTINGHOUSE WOULD ONLY LAST A COUPLE OF YEARS WHEN USED ABOUT 6 HOURS A DAY. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF THERE ARE ANY REASONABLE RESOLUTIONS TO MY PROBLEM. I MIGHT ALSO ADD THAT I AM A STOCK HOLDER OF WESTINGHOUSE STOCK FOR MANY YEARS AND AM ASTONISHED THAT OUR COMPANY WOULD PRODUCE A PRODUCT OF SUCH LOW QUALITY

That is an unfortunate situtation you are in, but you need to understand Westinghouse does not make or manufacture the TV or is components in your TV. They are merely doing what is common in the industry which is rebanding.

$1100 is a lot of money for a 32" LCD so I do not blame you for being upset about the problem you are getting and the service you are experiencing. But the fact of the matter is, there are 32" LCDs on the market today that are starting at $499.99. You can always purchase a more expensive name brand also, but in the end you should consider a replacement warranty or if you put it on a Credit Card, verify whether your Credit Card does automatic warranty extensions....

There is red and blue lines around screen and images. (Almost looks like it should be 3d). Does this mean it needs a new lamp/bulb? It is only 6 years old. What is the cost for the part? Thank you

If model number is as listed (46f500) it does not use a lamp or bulb but has three picture tubes.

3d means the two convergence chips in the set have failed.

It depends on if you can solder etc, not a very expensive parts cost (under 30 dollars)

Can you solder?

Hitachi 50vs810. Blinking Temp light. No picture No sound.

Spoke to a local repair shop. The tech told me that there is a wiring harness that has four fans on it. One of the four fans has failed. The complete harness needs to be replaced. There is another risk. Depending on the state of the TV when the fan failed, it might have cost you a bulb as well. The tech quoted me $250 to $300 to repair the television. Add about $120 more for a bulb.

My 1080i has a triple picture, can you help?

Hi,
It definitely can be fixed the IC chips (called STKs) that line up the images from each picture tube are failing.Sometimes a fuse or resistor go out along with the chips. The parts would cost around $100 + whatever labor charge if you hire someone.

Blue tint on bottom of screen

I have the same KDF60XS955 sony and have the same problem. I called sony customer support and was told there was a recall on the optical block for this tv. But the recall ended in Dec. of 2008. I was upset that they did not call or send out a notice to me. They should of had my information because I had a different issue that they sent someone out to fix a few years ago. They said it was an expensive fix, like over 1000 dollars. Instead of fixing it they offered me a deal on a smaller tv, a 52 inch sony. I could buy that one at a discount which is about 1100 dollars. I told them that I thought that was the worst deal I have ever heard of. Why would I spend about 4000 dollars for a tv 4 years ago only to be told that I could buy a smaller one today for 1100 dollars more. I said if I bought that 52 inch tv today, what would happen 4 years from today, am I going to be offered an even smaller one for more money again? I thought I was buying a top of the line tv back then, I only wished it would have lasted longer than this. Not happy!
