The buttons started to freeze, but would work after I resetted the player. I didn't want to send it in to Creative bc I didn't want to lose all of my music. Now it isn't under warranty anymore and the touch pad isn't responding, even with numerous resets.
I upgraded the firmware yesterday and that hasn't helped. I would do recovery mode, but the touchpad and buttons do not work. Help?

Re: buttons froze, now the touch pad doesn't work
Go ahead and get the player replaced - there is obviosuly a hardware issue here.
I stumbled on a knowledge base on the Creative web-site after I had registered the player; maybe this was not available to me previously.
This player has a Reset button sunk into the base. It needs a prod with
the end of a paper clip during the boot up. The resultant Recovery menu
gives the option to Format the disc which I've done and successfully
loaded my music back again. It is now playing very nicely and hopefully will continue to do so.
I hope this info will help others with the same problem. I t appears that the music files can become corrupted very easily.

Perform a straightforward reset procedure on your iPod Touch if you are experiencing issues like freezing, unresponsive apps, delays or other other problems. Carry out a reset if your iPod doesn't respond when you attempt to restart the unit. This type of reset will not erase any content from your iPod Touch.
Locate the "Sleep/Wake" button on the top of the iPod Touch. Press and hold down the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button simultaneously. Continue to hold both buttons for at least 10 seconds. Release the "Sleep/Wake" button and the "Home" button when the Apple logo appears on the screen, indicating the device has been reset. Hope it helps.
Mine had exactly the same problem, it was playing and then it froze, I switched it off and it didn’t switch back on and my computer didn't register it. To fix it, just get the back of a pin or a needle and on the back of the player, press in the reset button. It is marked. It worked with mine. Hope this helps.
Normally when something freezes I think its best to give it some time de-freeze. Secondly see around it if it has a RESET button which I think it should have, then you reset it, that's the main thing that will solve the problem, I have experienced something like that before so I reset it and it continued to work well for me
The same thing happened too me about six months ago after about a year and a half of using my zen with min. problems. It would freeze on 'Rebuilding..' and then there was an endless cycle of reset but eventually it would Rebuild completely and all my music and information was fine. It seemed to be playing fine but if it froze I had to start the reset game all over again. Then the real problems started. There are a few load screens before you make it to the Rebuild and it started to freeze on that instead after awhile. I was actually revealed when I froze on 'rebuilding..' and made it that far. If you can get it into recover mode and reboot it seems to have less problems freezing but that doesn't even work for me anymore. Then occasionally when it freezes it starts to vibrate terribly and make a horrible sound. Then it stops and flashes hard disk problems. This all happened slowly too me. It really wasn't worth the time I put into it trying to fix it. My advice is to work on getting a new MP3 player. If you can get it past the 'rebuilding..' your going to have to play the reset game every time it freeze and it will probably freeze more often.
Press and hold the wake/sleep button and the home button simultaneously for ten seconds and the apple logo should appear on the screen. Release the buttons and it should work like normal. Hope this helps.
