Question about DVD & Blu-Ray Players

Philips 32" LCD turns itself on at 5am every day

The tv begins to turn on with a loud click and then after a few seconds turns off again. In the intervening seconds the screen partially brightens and then dims again. The tv is in the bedroom and the loud click is very disturbing (wife is a light sleeper). Philips seem to have no idea what is causing this. They've had it in the shop for 3 weeks and can find nothing wrong with software, timer etc. Have tried everything from taking remote out of room to covering intrared receiver with tape. The on-timer is switched off. What type of external signal could the tv be recieving to cause it to think it should switch on? TV is just over a year old.
I can think of nothing in our home that would send a signal for any reason at a predetermined time. Hope you can help.

Wife not happy about the faraday cage...nice try though. Got to bottom of problem - it's definately a software issue. Unplug power and tv timer is reset to zero, unplug aerial and power back on and tv time remains at zero. Plug in aerial and within seconds correct time is picked up from broadcast signal. Can't be just me as Philips issued a software upgrade but it didnt work. Only solution now is to switch tv off at wall socket every night - not very convenient.

Outside your home like an alarm signal from another house, company or car. Can you switch the signal to another frequency? Or just build a Faraday cage ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage

My dvd player wont work it will just say hello when i turn it on but then it will turn off by itself

I have the same problem. I installed this unit and used it for a total of one day before it complely failed. When you tun it on, the display says hello, nothing is shown on the TV, and it turns itself off within 30 seconds. Solution, I am returning this JVC unit and never purchasing another JVC product again. Complete failure after one days use, pitiful!

Can't get the tv back on the channels properly after watching a m

Change the input, look for the button on the remote or on the TV itself. Just changing the channel on the TV after powering down the VCR should also work.

TV SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF

there is a infra red emmiting diode inside that has failed. this is the diode just under the prism inside the unit. replace that and re-time the mode switch. the unit is not made by philips but by funai so no support can be given to you from philips. I've repaired close to 60 of these with the same problem you have.

DVD playback color

When passing the video signal thru a VCR on the way to the TV, you are activating the DVD's "Macrovision" copy protection.  You need to hook it directly to the TV.
