My Lexmark x4550 all-in-one printer wont print anymore.It worked for a short time but now it doesnt print.I keep getting the error message communication problem,the printer cannot communicate with the printer. I have only had it for 3 weeks so i am thinking of returning it for a replacement. I have tried a few things that i have read on the net but nothing seems to work it out. Help someone please!

    Update...Thankyopu for your assistance.I tried your suggestions but sadly it didnt fix the problem.I have now decided to return the printer.They sent me a replacment printer but that did the same as well.So i am returning both and getting a refund.

    I will start again with Brother printer.

You need to reconfigure the port. Go to the printer icon in "Control Panel" and open "Printers."

You will see that your printer is "Offline."

Rt Click on the printer and select "Properties." Click on the "Ports" Tab, highlight your printer by clicking on it and then select "Configure Port." This will open a new window where you then click on "Configure." In the next window choose DHCP (Radio Button) and wait until finished.

Remember back where you first started, Rt click your printer again and choose "Use Printer online." When the process is finished close all windows and you will be printing.

This also works with many of the Dell Photo printers as they are made by Lexmark. Unfortunately you may find that if you turn your computer off it may go "offline" again and you will have to do this process all over again. Good Luck.

Lexmark x4550 installed new cartridge a lexmark cartridge I keep getting alignment error. Take the tape off. There is no tape to take off since I already took it off. How can I fix this problem?


The problem could be due to a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In One (AIO) or by a short in one if the printheads. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge issues:

  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
  3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
  4. Close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  7. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

The printer does not print and i get a message that says system cannot find file


Try to reinstall the printer driver on your computer. Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark X4550 Printer Driver on your computer. Select your operating system, download and execute the file. Follow the instructions on your computer screen.

Hi - my x4550 lexmark printer wont print, can you help?


If your printer won't print when you're making a copy using the Copy button on the operator panel, it could be due to your ink cartridges. Try to re-seat your ink cartridges into the printer and make sure they are properly seated.
If you're not able to print from your computer, it could be a communication problem. A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if usb-connected), reboot your computer and unplug/replug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Try to print again.

CANT ENABLE BIDIRECTIONAL COMMUNICATION X4550


I have tried to set up this wireless printer on my laptop (windows vista basic). I run through installation and get message - installation complete and the green indicator light is fully on. When I try and print I get message Printer cannot communicate with computer - please turn on 'Enable Biodirectional Communication' in printer properties. I go to control panel/printer/propertie/ports/ and I see Enable Biodirectional communication - the box is grayed out and I cannot enable it. Any suggestions?

take the cartridges out and clean them also clean where they go with a lint free cloth then replace them.

Is the printer a wireless, network, or connected to another computer wired.

Also, be sure that your "workgroup" is still named the same on all computers.
