Will a garmin gtm 20 charger work with a garmin nuvi 660 gps

Yes! The GTM-20 is a charger with a built-in traffic receiver. The charger plugs into the cradle for the Nuvi 660 and then the Nuvi 660 snaps into the cradle.

However to receive traffic with the GTM-20, you will need to purchase a subscription, either yearly or lifetime. The traffic receiver receives traffic information from FM radio broadcast stations, which broadcast traffic data.

Traffic not working at peak times

Most traffic reporting is done over FM radio frequencies so it really doesn't matter whether it's rush hour or not, unless your GPS traffic receiver is being shielded by other traffic, but this is unlikely.
You can learn all about how this is done at http://www.gpsreview.net/traffic/ If the traffic receiver is external to the GPS, like with the Garmin NUVI where it's in the power cord, make sure it's not near some dense metal that might be shielding it.

I just bought the garmin nuvi 265wt. I tried to activate the free lifetime traffic that comes with the unit but when I touched the screen to enable the traffic it told me I first must go to www.garmin/fm...

Check the information that came in your box. With my TomTom Lifetime Traffic and Maps, there was an "activation" number on one sheet of paper. I had to activate (per instructions) before I could enable the lifetime goodies.

Where do I go to register my garmin and get the traffic set up

Your Garmin already has the lifetime subscription on it and does not need to be set up. For the traffic icon to come up in the top left you need to have it plugged into your car power cord which has an FM receiver on it and you need to be where there is an FM signal. Not all cities have an FM signal but they are adding new ones all the time. If you do not see the traffic icon you may not be where a signal is yet. I have a 255WT and where i live does not have a signal but when I travel to other cities I find the FM signal and it has helped me a lot to go through traffic. For proof of your lifetime traffic go to the bottom of your menu page when it is plugged into your car power cord and plugged in to the power source. You will find a traffic icon. Click on it and you should see a lifetime subscription. You can also add other traffic subscription on this page if you are travelling to other countries. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I lost the manuel and would like to know if it has traffic control, and how does that feature work

You can download a copy of the owners manual from Garmin directly here. The device has the ability to receive FM traffic data to assist in route planning.

This feature is enabled by using an FM Traffic Receiver that is included - it is built into the power plug - and enabling the feature online or by calling Garmin. Information on the FM Traffic service is available here. Your GPS may have a complimentary period of service included - after which a subscription must be purchased to continue to receive the traffic data.

Garmin 265WT - fm traffic

I called Garmin about the same issue. If you will turn it on and are in one of the 50 metro areas covered it will automatically receive trraffic updates. That is exactly what I did and it worked and I got the same message you did. You do NOT have to sign up, get a code, or anything. Just turn it on in one of the areas and watch for the traffic symbol on the uper left hand side.
