My monitors light is blinking, more quickly than normal, and I cannot get a picture. The screen is entirely black. I noticed a couple of days ago that my picture quality seemed strange. Almost as though the connection between the computer and the monitor was weak (old tv lines). One day the monitor just turned black, and it hasn't come back since.

Have an Iiyama Prolite E481S and suffered exactly the same problem a few weeks back.  Green power light keeps blinking but black screen.  Power definitely on. Have tried with different computers.  Could it be the internal flourescent light has gone?  Not good for a monitor I've treated very well.

Power Light is blink but cannot get the display to work.

  • Anonymous Nov 10, 2008

ACER TFT AL1706A monitor went blank for a moment a few time in last 10 days. Also on switching on showed a fully-lit bight white screen. But after a restart of the monitor the display was ok. But now the monitor is dead with just the green light blinking continously without any sign of life on the screen.

  • lcdfixneeder Nov 30, 2008

screen started to "fade" and I clicked auto adjust and it just wentcompletely black. The power light blinks on and off, and I canphysically hear a click every time it blinks. Not sure if that's normalor not. I opened up the monitor to check for anything that looked bad, like the capacitor, but nothing looks bulged or burned. could it be the powersupply itself? I was thinking that might be it, but why would I geteven a green blinking light if it was the power supply.

I'd hate to throw it away... is there anything fun I can do with this thing if it can't be fixed to it's original state?

I have the same problem. I came home tonite to find my X2gen monitor is blank, the indicator light is blinking amber and there is a clicking sound. I am wondering if there is a reset for the monitor or for the power supply? Thanks for any suggestions!

If you move the mouse or type on the keyboard will the monitor turn on again? Your computer's screen saver and power saving settings might be set to shut down the monitor after 4 hours for power saving mode - this can be changed in the Display Settings window (assuming you're using Windows) by going to the Power Management window and changing the time period from 4 hours to "never". This feature is actually good for saving electricity and extending the life of your monitor.

We had the same problem with a Princeton VL1918 19" LCD monitor. Usually its a capacitor problem. If this is the case you might need to take the monitor apart look on the power board for the bulged capacitors and pull the numbers off of the caps. Go to a radio shack or find an electronics store in your area, get a soldering gun a soldering vaccum bulb and a wet sponge. Make sure you plug the right post into the right hole before you solder it. There is a Negative and a Positive on the caps. The wafer board should say where the negative whole is, also the capacitors on the board will show a negative side. Just use a pen or a sharpie mark for the negative posts, there may be a few caps that may be bulged. On the Princeton I just fixed it had three of the same capacitors 470uf at 25volts. Make sure you get the right caps or you have the potential to mess your monitor up even more than it already is. Inspect all your caps on your power board, Im sure there will be some rather larger ones and some small ones, if they look bad or you even suspect them of being bad REPLACE THEM. Capacitors are CHEAP so replace them if you suspect them of being bad. Solder new caps onto the board and then clip the extra cap posts. A note on safety. PLEASE BE SAFE DESOLDERING OLD CAPS. They can be charged in some cases. Just don't cross the posts when desoldering. The new ones that are packaged should not be charged but safety first ALWAYS assume a capacitor IS charged at all times! You will live longer if you take that approach!

I think my problem started after I installed HP Photosmart All-In-One printer. I have uninstalled it and so far the monitor is performing fine (I hope it stays that way).
Anybody knows of any conflict between Photosmart and the PC?

The solution above about HP is not it.

I vacuumed all vents in the monitor and the CPU and it seems to work.

Let me know if vacumming works for you

Monitor : no display and blue led light is blinking

The power supply is the first thing that the 110v electric line goes into. The invertor is the next item past the power supply, or sometimes contained within it. I do not thing monitors are a DIY repair.      First substitute a different monitor to confirm that it is, in deed , the monitor and not the video card.

If there is a flashing led on front of the monitor, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1 The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting the flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then the monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr suddenly are a blown capacitor on power board, the inverter board powering up backlight lamp has blown, or a fault on main lcd controller board.
check also the video cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

Check connectors, try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact manufacturer to find out a service point.

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

I just replaced the relay on my second-hand NEC2010X . It would go out after some period of time, but come back if I unplugged it and then plugged it in again. It finally died altogether, but when I replaced the relay, it worked fine. Apparently this relay is the weak link on many LCD's (probably the only moving part in the whole thing). So open it up, unsolder the relay, and put in a new one.

Monitor stops display

most likley the monitor has an internal power supply failure, generally the cost of repair could be higher than buying a new one.If your monitor is still in its warranty period contact the manufacturer,if not do you know of a local tv repair shop that provides free estimates to confirm cost of repair vs. replacement?
