HP DesignJet 110 - will not move cutter after job is printed

Hi

Having trouble with paper roll feeder. Has been working fine, serviced printer (ie cleaned all paper feed tyres and cleaned sensors) but still can not get the paper to feed and stop when first fed into the printer AND when I did (once) the print job finished but the cutter did not move to cut the paper, just sat there.

I am guessing that a paper sensor is not working to tell the printer that paper is being feed, but which sensor.

I work on HP printers but not the DisignJet 110 plotters (used in a drawing office)

Any help ASAP would be great, as I am on site now !

Regards

Vince.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I did not "touch" any sensors just used my puffer brush (no contact was made).

But i like the option if all else fails of sending it back to HP for repair.

i will check with the customer to see when they bought the printer and check with HP.

    Regards

    Hi

I have not found the firmware upgrade site yet ??

Also I believe the problem lies with the paper roll feed device (Q1247A).

There are 2x sensors on the unit you can take out the back of the printer and I think it may be one of these or the wiring back to the feed roller?

Every thing else looks ok and works (ie prints ok from the paper tray)

So, to sum up : when the paper roll if first put into the slot on the printer the printer does NOT bleep and feed in the paper roll, so the printer does not know that paper is ready to be feed (although I have pushed it into the slot until it stops)???

    Regards

    Vince.

Still looking for some help with this one.

Which sensor is it that tells the printer, that the paper is ready, for it to feed the roll into the printer and then bleep to say it is ready for use?

I have made sure that they are using the printer correctly (they have been for 18 months - they tell me!)

Hi,

The cutter depends on the carriage to move from right to left; the carriage picks up the cutter cuts paper then returns the cutter, releases it returns to the right side of the printer. If you can see the carriage move to the cutter but then it doesn't latch onto the cutter, you may want to try removing the cutter then re-installing it, to see that it is correctly setup to cut. If you see only the paper move (but not the carriage) it is possible that your printer needs the firmware upgraded.

The next thing is that make sure not to tighten down the screws too much, since that would impede its ability to move. Once you re-seat it (several times) and fiddle with the screw tightness, it should work.

Try a hard reset first: Unplug the printer from AC source, and any other input device. Wait about 10 minutes and reconnect. Power on the printer and see if that helps. If not,you have a problem with either the sensors or the circuitry. Best call HP tech support for detailed analysis..

This is the problem with the feed roller they are not feeding the paper , this happens when then roller are completely fails or dust accumulates on the roller and sensors .

try this:

You have done the maintenance items, now check the soft item.
You are feeding the roll paper into the lower slot.
With a new roll of paper, it is easy to feed the paper into the rear manual feed slot.

You probably shouldn't of touched any sensors. so if you go to www.hp.com see if you can get the printer RMA, which means you have to send them the printer, then they'll send you a brand new one via UPS for free. but they may charge S and H. Please rate my solution.

Hi,

Initially, have you tried updating the the firmware through the HP maintenance portal? Alternately or additionally, pls try here. there would be a spring in the left side cover, and it strong and long spring that lifts the feed ramps and holds them against the pick cam. The spring force of the ramps against the cam creates too much drag for the engagement gear to overcome. Stretch the spring slightly.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

For paper cut, you should see the printer properties, there you can fine Auto Cut paper Check box or some thing like that. Make the correct setting, then it will work.

Thanks & Good Luck

Paper cutter

You should try replacing the cutter assembly with a new one. They are rather inexpensive ($50) to purchase and easy to install.

The only other thing I can think would cause your problem is if something is stuck in the groove by the cutter guide that would cause it to disengage while cutting.

I ran into this problem once on a Designjet 110 series and it turns out that there is indeed faulty sensors that cause this issue. Unfortunatley it required the replacement of one sensor that detects the start of a page. I checked HP and this issue is not noted for the 1050, but that only means it is not likely a common issue.Post a comment if you would like additional instructions on how to diagnose.

Cutter Problem

the cutter has that bushing attached to act as a tire as it travels across the scan axis, these infrequently wear out and cause the carriage to basically drag the blade behind causing your uneven cut pattern, the cutter must be replaced. If you need direction on how to do so please contact me

Sounds like the overdrive clutch is't working. try rolling the small rollers under the forward star wheels back and forth. if they turn both ways the clutch is bad (about $100) but tack heart, a couple drops of light oil (3 in one oil) usualy fixes it. go to http://sjdtrucking.com/hpplotters/index.htm I have the service manual posted for instuctions on how to get to it

HP Designjet 110 plus nr print/feed problem

hmmm..sounds like a memory overload..shut down machine, let the memory clear, and maybe reinstall the print management software..print queue issues are almost always from overloading the memory for the printer..

on the feeder issue, check for paper caught in tray or path, and clean the rollers too.
