Question about Onkyo TX-SR505 Receiver

Questions about Onkyo SR505

I am just getting to know my new 505E and have run into several questions I would love to hear others' thoughts about.
1. Codes for projectors?
The remot can control other pieces of equipment. All you do is input the right code. However the list that comes with the receiver doesn't include any projectors. I have a Sanyo Z5. Does anyone know if this can be controlled by the Onkyo remote, and if so with what code?
2. Video cables to projector
I have two players hooked in through digital sound and component input. Video is output through component. When I hook my old VCR to the regular video or S-video in ports, no picture comes through the component ports. Do I need a seperate video or S-video cable to the projector for that? In other words, can the receiver take S-video input and route it through the component out ports?
3. HDMI input
If I get a PopCorn hour player and hook it up with HDMI. Can that go out through component video to my projector?
4. There are lots of sound modes available but I don't understand teh differences between when and when to use what.
Grateful for all suggestions.

1, remote codes, check with sayno for code updates. Or consider a harmony remove last remote you will every buy.
2. Receiver does not convert video standards, need svideo cable.
3. popcorn hour player, no idea what that is , but like number 2. will need a seperate hdmi cable.

However, if the receiver and the player both have component, i would not hesitate to wore everything up component. In your application component video is better than hdmi. To many reasons to list. Good luck

How do I hook up my Onkyo receiver to my dish network box?

Take the cables from the receiver to the tv and connect it to your Onkyo where it says "in", then take another cable and run it from your Onkyo receiver where it says "out" and connect it directly to the tv. Make sure you cycle the inputs on your receiver and tv, so you get sound and video.

I have a Onkyo TX-SR604 Receiver. I get no sound

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

A point to keep in mind here is that Zone II will only feed through an analog source. Since the Video 1 input is using the digital (coax, optical) input that that is your most likely issue.

Thank you for using Fixya, and please let me know if I can firther assist.

Audio cuts of during graphics, Onkyo TX-SR706

I have a TX-SR505 and the same thing has been happening on mine since I bought it. I am also hooked up to a Panasonic Plasma, using the optical cable to the receiver. It's been perplexing me. I have noticed it typically during commercials, not during normal programming. If I turn up the volume on the Panasonic TV, I can hear the audio, so I know it's not a problem with the over the air signal. It must be something wrong with the reciever. Would love a fix to this!

My sub woofer (450 watts) is low. I would expect that with a 450 watt sub I would wake up the whole neighborhood. except it is just mediocre

If the output seems low or it IS low, there can be several reasons for that. Have you verified with low frequency material or with a test tone that the driver is moving? One reason to watch it is because if the subwoofer is not properly placed, you will have cancellation of certain frequencies depending on the room it's in and you won't hear them.
Second, is the output level of the sub set on the device that it is connected to and matched in level to your other speakers?
Be aware however that many brands, even those that have extremely exotic and expensive loudspeakers, often make mediocre subwoofers in their product line.

TX-SR504 receiver won't turn on

Had same on an ONKYO TX-505 given to me for repair - eventually found a broken track on top circuit board that came from a transistor that control the main power on relay - looked like it was burnt off for a section of about 1.2mm

Repaired the track and has worked ever since

good luck WTech/Townsville

The only display on my onkyo 706 is fl and fr. But all other speakers have sound.

When i played a dvd later that night the c lit up. And dolby digital was available. (I have my dvd optical cable hooked up to my receiver.) I still don't know why they put boxes with no letters in them.
Yet sound still comes out the speakers.
I really thought this receiver was hook up the speakers plug in the mic and your ready for sound.
So i have more questions. i am just trying to work one bug out at a time.
Thanks.

Do all speakers need to have the same impedance? (Protect mode)

Amplifiers sometimes like to have "balanced loads" on them, and this may be the case with your unit, meaning yes, all the impedances should match.

Judging by the impedance numbers you provided, you should be all set. You really want to avoid having something like 2 ohms on the left side and 8 ohms on the right side - grossly imbalanced. I don't see any problems with what you're going to run.
