Question about Linksys ULTRA RANGEPLUS WIRELESS N GIGABIT ROUTER

1 Answer

WRT310N Seems that on some desktops with wireless access cards won't let you connect to this router as you get a message saying that windows can't find a certificate when you try to let windows manage your wireless connections. I talked to Linksys at length about this, and it is a known problem. It has been since this router was put on the market. Needless to say, there is no recourse as of yet for this problem. I got this thing at Best Buy. Seems again, we are testing products that should still be in beta. I have a copy of the conversation if anyone is interested.

First as a test, turn off the wireless security, and see if the laptop can connect.

If it can connect with security turned off, then it is likely that you are making some type of mistake with the password. (Such as caps lock being on, or having a keyboard error.)

Good Luck!

To connect to your wireless router, it needs its wireless settings configured and also the wireless card in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

Desktop can no longer access the internet with Linksy router

Check the firmware of both your router and your wireless card and make sure they are both current.

In all honesty, it sounds like you have damage to an antenna or an electronics failure on either your router or wireless card.

You will prob end up exchanging equipment to find your resolution.

Intermittent Enabling

First you can try to uninstall and reinstall the driver of the wireless adapter on that desktop. Unplug and re-plug the wireless card. If it is a wireless PCI card, make sure the antenna is tightly screwed on. Install just the driver of the wireless card and not the utility/software that came with it. You can also try to change the channel on the wireless router by going to the router's user interface. If you're on channel 6, choose channel 11 and save the settings. Then power cycle the router, unplug the power for 30 seconds then plug it back in. Check now if you can connect wireless.

Desktop works (direct to router), laptops cannot connect

first of all make sure that the wireless settings of the router match the settings of your wireless computer.

make sure also that there are no friewall or security programs running in your computer because they can interfere with the wireless connection as well.
