D52W20BYX1 CONVERGENCE HAVE SAME PROBLEM LIKE OTHERS, 3D AND BOWING. I CHECKED ALL FUSES FOUND. THEY CHECKED OK. I PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER AND PLUGGED IT IN, HADE NO BOW AND WAS ABLE TO RUN AUTO-CONVERGENCE,LOOKED GREAT. UNPLUGGED IT SCREWED THE BACK COVER BACK ON. PLUGGED IT BACK IN AND 3D/BOW WAS BACK. UNPLUGGED IT, TOOK BACK COVER OFF , DISCONNECTED SOME WIRES LOOKING FOR LOOSE CONNECTION. PLUGGED IT BACK IN, BOW WAS GONE AND CONVERGENCE WAS OK,. THIS LASTED ABOUT 2-3 MIN. AND 3D/BOW CAME BACK. DONE THIS TWICE SO FAR AND IT ONLY LAST A FEW MIN. IT HAS THE ITC222 TYPE IN IT. SO WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS? FUSE, DIODE,IC'S OR SOMETHING NEW? TV WAS FREE AND WAS REPAIRED B4 FOR SAME THING.

    model D52W23

While watching had a flash with pic reappearing w/fish eye look and red-green-blue color separation and really noticeable with letters, lines and numbers. From all I have read it's most likelt the convergence power supply board?

  • mrfixit392 Jun 15, 2008

MAY HAVE FIX PROBLEM. TOOK ANOTHER LOOK AT POWER SUPPLY BOARD AND FOUND A SLOPPY SOLDERING CONNECTION ON A HEATSINK FROM A PREVIOUS REPAIR. IT HAD TOO MUCH SOLDER AND WAS MAKING CONTACT

WITH A NEARBY DIODE. TV BEEN ON FOR HOURS NOW AND NOT A GLICH, IN FACT THE PICTURE LOOKS BETTER THAN B4.

THANKS TO ALL FOR HELPFULL INFO ON THIS SITE.

Well I found the problem! There were several cold joints on the board under flyback transformer. I touched them up, replaced a fuse link (one of three located next to the transformer) and we're all good to go! I found where several other people experienced the same. http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=124207

I know what your going through... i had the same problem here at the shop.. we were given a set like this. ANd i was trying to fix it for myself.. I would turn it off for a few min and the turn it back on and it would be fine then turn it off then on and it would not have convergence... what finally worked for me was replaced the convergence amp board. which is the long cuircit board above the green main board.. it has serveral heat sinks(like fins). it solved my problem. This has a cuircit pathway that tells the convergance power supply to turn off and on... i think that cuircit was damaged... let me know if this works for you ....hope so

My Mitsubishi tv vs70707 convergence problems. I just replaced my 2 STK convergence chips, and double check my soldering. Still have 3d pictures and can't find pico fuses. Glass fuses are ok.

Need a better picture, but usually fuses are listed as F(number) and would be on the power input to the STK chips. The resistors should be checked as well.

Sometimes these boards are not repairable at a local level. I know this very well. It is my suggestion to contact Union Electronics at 1 800 648 6657 and ask for Heather. Be sure you have the TV model# and your board #. You may purchase a refurbished board at a reasonable price and receive a few bucks on your old one. You will be pleased with the results. I have had to do this on many occasions! Also, there is a guarantee on this reworked board. I have had very, very good luck with these . Good luck and thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!

Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Ok thanks for the info Now this is an indication of convergence issues(3d effect) the bowing issue idicates a complete loss of convergence power. which possible could be the convergence ic or the actual power feeding them. im feeling like it might be the ic overheating these get very hot. now the bad news. this is a set that is very difficult to work on. Rca has compiled a long list of problems with this set. getting to the chips is a chore. i cannot recommend repairing this set. I know no one likes to hear this.

there are several rca issued suggestions. the top one isChange C19542 on the Digital Convergence PCB from a 10uF 63WVDC capacitor (214698) to a
470uF, 25WVDC capacitor part number 214746.
Also change the 24V zener diode CR19720 (226446) on the Convergence Power Supply board to a
30V 500 milliwatt zener diode, part number 231211 this
but as i said this may or may not be the best solution
