Wireless networks can be secure or unsecure. Anyone can connect to an unsecure site simply by searching for available sites and choosing an unsecure one to connect to. There are inherit risks associarted with unsecure sites and you should NEVER do any financial or highly personal transactions on an unsecure network. Secure networks require a password (access code) to complete connection. This code is provided by the owner/administrator of the network. If you are allowed to connect to such a network, you should already be aware of the code. Otherwise you are basically not invited to the party.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer. Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL http://192.168.1.1 The default login = admin The default PW = admin You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place) Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access. Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer. To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security
access the router from internet explorer by typing the default gateway IP address in the address line of the browser: 192.168.0.1 is the default
you should get a login window, username is: admin leave the password blank, and you should gain access to the router web interface.
from there you go to the wireless tab, select enable wireless security, select WPA2 and use a 10 digit code (I use an old phone number I can't forget like 8009993355) save settings and you have a secure router.
Welcome to Fixya. If you want to setup a password or security on your router you need to access the Wireless Settings Page. To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security on the Dropdown next to Security Mode select either WEP or WPA. Then Personalize your Network Key. The Network Key serves as a password on your network to make it secure. Then Save the settings
If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.
you have to do is connect to the router and secure
the connection follow the following steps: - First
you have to access the router through web browser (Internet Explorer)
by typing the IP address of your router in the address bar, which is
192.168.0.1 (Default router settings are written under the router) and lookup for the options to do the
following: - 1. Change the SSID (Name) of the router 2. Change the default administrative user name and password (unless you've configured otherwise, the default username is admin and the password "leave it blank") (The above step would prevent unauthorized access to your router)
Next step is to secure it: 1.On the left-hand side, under Setup, click "Wireless Setup"
2.Under "Wireless Security Mode", select your desired encryption method (preferably WPA2-PSK) 3.Choose a Network Key - it can be anything, as long as it's 8-63 characters in length 4. Click Save Settings. In the screen shot below I have highlighted the above mentioned options.
Now your router and your connection would become secure and the user has to provide the network key to access the internet.
Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required. Hope it helps! Good Luck! Don't forget to convey your feedback CreativeTECH
You can enable WEP on your router to make your wireless network secure.
To access the screen of the router, type the ip address of the router in the address bar of Internet explorer or Firefox. By default the ip address of the router is 192.168.1.1. If this doesn't work, go to the command prompt (Start -> run -> type cmd). Type ipconfig. Copy the default gateway.
It will prompt you for a user name and password. By default leave the user name blank and then type admin in the password field.
Once you are in the Linksys screen, go to the Wireless tab -> Wireless security.
For the security mode, select WEP.
WEP encryption: 64bits 10 hex digits.
On the Passphrase field, type a wireless password of your choice, then click Generate.
It will give you a key. You will need to copy the wireless network key because you will need to enter this key on your PS3 and laptop. Take note that this is also case sensitive.
Once you click save settings, it will disconnect all your wireless computers.
You will need to manually enter the wireless network key on all your wireless devices. Without the network key, other computers will not be able to connect to your network.
I hope this helps.
