Question about Microsoft HannsG HU171D 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Won't shut off, buttons won't work, blue square in top left corner

I've had this monitor a few months and it worked fine. Today I noticed the monitor's menu kept popping up for 1 second and then going away. Finally I pushed the 'menu' button on the monitor to see if something wasn't set right and the menu popped up but then everything froze. The next thing I know the menu was gone but now there is a 3x3 sized blue square in the top left corner with all sorts of letters and numbers on it. I can't click it or do anything to it (the mouse arrow just goes behind it). The numbers and letters are white except for the words "Auto Color" which is red. Towards the bottom it says "Burnin Off" and "All Mode Recall". Also now none of the monitor's buttons work. I can't even turn it off. When the computer shuts down and I push the monitor's power button the screen constantly changes colors (like a light show): blue, pink, orange, yellow, red, green, etc. It never stops so I just have to unplug it. When I restart the computer the blue box is still there and nothing has changed. I'm so frustrated! Any help at all will be appreciated!

I just bought my samsung 22 inch monitor, and in the top left corner there is a display that won't go away. It have tried every single button on the remote and the monitor and it will not go away.

What is the content of the display? This sounds like one of the
family of viruses that hackers use. The smallest unwanted display
that I experienced was a simple period "." in the upper left oorner.
That told me that a hacker had placed some unwanted software
in my computer -- virus or other -- and I had to remove the application
and reload it. That little period "." also showed up on my Explorer
application and I had to reload that one also. My Mac does not have
viruses.

My 20 inch dell monitor is only using the left corner the screen and you can only see part of the desktop is visable and the text is upside down.

mcdevito75 here, Press the AUTO button on your monitor, if this does not work, press the MENU button, there you should see a square box with 4 arrows, these are used to center your picture on your monitor, use the left / right arrows also on your monitor to adust the screen picture with this box woth the 4 arrows from Menu.

Blank Screen

Common problem in monitors are bad caps in the power supply, that is the first place to check, look for bad caps with bulging top/bottom, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors due to bad caps here (worst case will be bad lamps): http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see so we can help you further.

I have the same problem except it usually happens after Ive left my computer idle for a while... i.e . Overnight, I usually turn off the monitor and I hit the button after I come back to turn it on. I get the same flashing light for several minutes. This has been a problem for several months, but only recenly have i gotten the same error message you mentioned. Each time ive booted the computer up cold or restarted it has worked fine but this time it took longer along with displaying the message: Top Left to Right: SH770 P001 Bottom Left to Right: AU M170EN05 Anyone else who can clear this up?
