Question about Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Air conditioning yes my ac is not cooling off my apartment, i have had the maintenance guy in here about 3 times already and he said it isn't going to get much cooler than 20 degrees less than the temp outside. i know he is not a certified HVAC mechanic and he just keeps giving me the same anwsers every time i talk to him. He said the ac unit is old and i am in the up stairs apartment so all the heat from the downstairs is coming into my apartment, but i think it is a bunch of bull that he is trying to fill my head with. but my unit outside is good on freon and everything, also my unit keeps running constantly. i have my thermo set on about 76 degrees but it never goes below 80 all day and it runs the hell out of my unit and electricity. another question should he even be working on my HVAC system seems how he is not certified in any kind of ASE with heat and air

Here are a couple things to check first make sure that the filter inside is clean if not replace. 2nd the outside coil needs to be cleaned at least once a year to ensure effeciency. These two things will make a dramatic improvement in operating costs and capability of the unit.

I have a rooftop ac unit on my popup that was replaced two years ago. The unit works fine but I would like the fan to shut off when the compressor isn't running. Is there a switch for putting the fan...

Please describe your controls. Does it not have low fan, high fan, low cool, high cool on the dial at ceiling? If yes, low cool or high cool setting should shut it down when temperature is reached via thermostat dial.

Not cooling very good anymore. its cool but not that good! all the settings work. one thing i did notice is that ice builds up on the cooling coil from compressor! ( ge room ac model # ast05lcs1...5500...

Your intuition is right, the ice buildup is why it's not cooling so well now: the evaporator isn't getting the correct air flow and surface area for heat exchange. The 1st thing you might want to check is to make sure that it's draining properly. The 2nd thing you might want to do is to check that the room is over 100 sqft. If you'r only cooling a tiny bedroom, the AC's basically oversized: your cooling already cooled air, so it freezes. The actual reason that is freezes is because the condition is just right for the immediate area near the evaporator to be at the saturation point. Think of it in terms of weather: warm and humid air collides with cool air and it begins to rain. The temperature drops further, and the rain turns into snow. One thing you could try to make it not freeze-up is to adjust the temperature setting a few degrees or change the fan speed.

FEDDER'S PORTABLE UNIT SAYS STOP. WONT RUN

Disconnect power to the unit and reconnect. If "stop" is still on the display you will probably need a qualified technician to trouble shoot. The best mode is the snowflake (cooling). The rain drop is dehumidification which can cause condesation on unit.

A/c not blowing cold...

Basically for him even saying what he said, was not the right guy. Most house units with the Square footage you provided have 2-3 lbs of refrigerant yes , If he said you needed three pounds he is lying becuase you ac compressor would have burned out a long time ago and it would also short cycle too.Meaning outside unit would go on then off rapidly. In most systems a compressor has a safety where if your dangerously low it will cut off but before that you ll notice your ac blowing hot air.So that was not cool him telling you that . I'm not there to check but a real tec. would check inside and outside keep the gauges on and let you know . "even after if he did "(put 3LBS)" he should of waited about 15-20 Min's to see if it were blowing cooler.my suggestion is in the attic" You might have some infiltration of humid air coming in . Which means cut or holes in the ducts.I Hope that helped any more questions fill free to ask .
P.S. Get a real tec Who would explain better no mom and pop joints"
