Recently there was a thunderstorm in our area. there was a flash of lightining outside and the tv went off along with other appliances. when power was restored 10 minutes later. the tv would power on for 3 seconds then power off. now it will not power on at all. do i junk it?

if it is new it should be under warranty,if not ,yes there may be a fuse inside,on the board where the plug is connected,taking it apart will void the warranty and can be dangerous .dont try this unless you have experience
The set is in protective shutdown because a problem was detected. The 5 blink code indicates that the problem circuit. In this case it is the blanking circuit. Were there any indications of problems prior to the storm? If not, I'll need to lok up this one for the specifics. Do you intend to repair this yourself?

The 4 blink code usually indicates a loss of vertical deflection. Check the solder connections on the vertical IC. If the connections are OK, replace the chip as it is defective. This chip will be a small flat IC with about 1 pins or so attached to a heatsink. It will be marked LA3847 or something similar.
