Thanks for info. However, I tried a good power supply but its the same problem. When I turn on power only fans (CPU and case - both plug directly to motherboard) spins. No other sounds. Also floppy drive light comes on immediately and stays on (and floppy cable is plugged correctly)

On my brand new Biostar P4M80-M4 MB, the BIOS came up first time, but when I exited out the CPU fan spins, keyboard lights blink, but no video or beeps at all. I noticed several other people having problems like this on the vendor's reviews, I guess RMA is the only option. Tried three different power supplies (one brand new, two ran other machines of this level fine, and test fine after using with this one) two sets of RAM, three different CPU's (P4 and Celeron of the same or similar speeds). Been through lots of Arctic Silver, but no go on the machine!

I bought an open box P4M80-M4 from new egg and after I installed the board, only the cpu and case fans come on. I never see a BIOS screen. I tried using a 3rd party video card with the same results. I also tried another CPU and some different memory with the same results.

I have a same problem. On power up the CPU, PS and chassis fans are spinning for 1/2 a second and turns off. All peripherals and HD's disconnected. BIOS reseted, and memory reseated.
I replaced a power supply and CPU. No solution.

Exactly the same problem, only the fan spins, no start up screen, or bios. Ran good for two weeks, then just quit.

Well, an update... I returned the motherboard to NewEgg (extremely easy to deal with) and they sent a new one. It posted first try and has run fine since. Must have had a bad board the first time since I am using the original parts. Just glad it didn't take anything else out like CPU or memory. Thanks to everyone who offered help.

I have the same problem, the CPU fan spins, keyboard lights blink, no start up screen, or bios.
If I push a few times on the pc reset button, then the CPU fan is becoming still, the keyboard lights are out and (wonder!) I can start the computer again in a normal way.
Can this one be a temporally solution for you too?
I guess that can be electricity dysfunction of a wrong fixed cable.

I guess it's a powersupply issue. what wattage and amps on +12v is your powersupply?

Motherboard Power Problem

Hello Alienware,

Could be a few things.... such as the micro-fuses that have gone on the MB....

But what I dont understand is this:...."Then I disconnect the 4-pin cable that goes from the Power Supply to the motherboard near the CPU and the pc turns on fine"

How????
You have just disconnected the cable from the PSU to the motherboard....it CANT turn on! LOL.

Do you mean that the lights turn on?
Or you hear the HD spin up (if you left it connected to the MB that is)?

Please advise so I can help you more.

Hello download the manual here:

You need adobe reader, to read content.

Look in the bios setup, for proper boot settings for the drives.

Good luck

Doesn't post. cpu fan spins, hard drive powers up but nothing else.

I would actually try checking your system components are installed in the right way. then, I would take the battery off and put it back the next day. then,i would replace the cpu.
However, socket 478 motherboards are Very Cheap nowadays so i wouldnt lose sleep over it.. However, you should keep trying and maybe it'll fire up someday... someday.. Good Luck and I hope this helps!

Just replaced my Biostar P4M80-M4 mother board with a new one and I now have no screen. Power supply on, fans running, appears all is well but no screen?

Try replace the Memory module (DDR2 RAM) with new ones. That's should fix it!!

If still won't come out, replace the power supply unit.

New agp video card won't work.

The only way to tell if it is the connection or the card is to try a different card. Take it back to the place you bought it from and have them swap it for a new one.
