Question about GE Monogram® ZISS420DMSS Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice dispenser flap/door will not close properly

My GE Monogram® ZISS420DMSS Ice dispenser flap/door will no longer close tightly and lets cold air out and causes the chute to ice up. The spring is apparently weak and often after dispensing ice will stay open. Even if you reach up there and close the flap, it will not seat tightly.

We have same problem. The flap/door can not be closed properly and ice fall off sometimes.

The repair parts; spring, ice door flapper, and solenoid parts appear easy to remove and replace. However, how do you remove the stainless steel freezer side wrap assembly. It appears to be form fitted and it needs to come off so the door collar kit can be removed to gain access to the ice funnel assembly. I'm afraid I'll bend/damage the SS door covering. Any suggestions on how to remove it from the foam door?

I have the same problem. Chute constantly icing up. Also water dispenser stops working intermittently. Wondering if it is freezing too.

I have a similar problem. The repair guy took a look at it and stated everything is working and did not order any solenoid or any other parts. After he left the problem returned where ice comes down the chute it tends to lodge and keep the door open. I am disagreement with the repair guy and am leaning toward the idea that the spring has lost tension and is just too weak to close with any authority. There is a video on how to replace the spring on youtube. This is what I will be doing next weekend and will try to return to post results.

If you take a look at this diagram, you should be able to see all the inner workings of that area and decide if you want to repair it. I think anyone with the most basic mechanical skills could easily handle this repair. See parts 62,63,67, etc. Could just be the spring is off or broken. SOURCE: GE Icemaker flap door won't open causes ice jam in chute

There is an electric solenoid that opens the door. If you look up inside the dispenser you can see the solenoid. Either the solenoid is bad or the dispenser module that puts power to it is out. You will need to remove dispenser front and check for voltage to solenoid. If you have power from module, replace solenoid, if no power, replace both parts. It is common for solenoid to short out and damage the module so that both must be replaced. If solenoid is shorted and you replace module, new part will fry.

SOURCE: ge profile artica ice dispenser and chute frosing.

This may be because the chute door is not all the way shut when off. If yes the warm moist air is being pulled through the opening and causing this. Sea Breeze

Freezer door ice dispenser flap will not close completely. The cold air is leaking out of the freezer. What can I do to fix?

There are multiple parts to the dispenser for GE. You say that door isn't closing properly, which could mean that the solenoid isn't working properly, or that the door flap retainer itself is broken, I want to say that they make a complete kit for it but not for certain,

Water wont dispense but still makes ice. Also fridge side gets extremely cold no matter the settings and freezes stuff in the bottum drawers

Since your freezer control is the main thermostat , and your refrig control is only a damper , lower your freezer setting and turn the refrig control mid way . This will make the refrig run less , and keep the air flow moving , throughout the complete unit . When the airflow stops , by turning down the refrig control ( closing the damper ) , all the cold air will settle in the refrig section , thereby freezing everything in the lower section .
Since the water line runs thru the freezer door , too cold in the freezer section , will cause the water in the line to freeze . I would also suggest installing a dispensor heater ( pt. # WR49X10173 ) , which would hopefully avoid water line freeze , in the future . This part comes with installation instructions .

GE Monogram refrigerator icemaker problem

This is normal if you have previously used the crushed ice mode. The refrigerator will continue to dispense crushed ice for some time until the reserves are depleted. If this continues for a longer period then shut down the refrigerator and remove the dispenser compartment, clean any remaining ice and reinstall it. Start the power supply and wait 5 hours for the ice to form. Use the cube mode and you will surely obtain ice cubes.

Ice dispensor flap is little warped.

the number for ge parts service is 1-877-959-8688. make sure you have the model # and serial number. if you don't have a manuel or if you have one that covers more than one model in it than you have to look for a little black most likely silver plate wich will have that info on it. if it's not on the inside or front of fridge anywhere you will have to pull it out from the wall because it will be on the back of it. hope i helped you.

Sounds like the ice door in the dispenser isn't closing properly or all the way which lets warm air in condensates then freezes.
