On these models I've noticed that the temperature in the ice maker area warms up due to a ball of ice forming inside the freezer compartment ice maker fan that has vent going to the ice maker. Until it is found whether or not that ball of ice is blocking the vent and fan you won't be able to go to the next step. The switch on the ice maker will test the ice maker by filling it with water and rotating the Forks that dump the ice into the ice bin Appliance 911 Sea Breeze
GE's ice makers are harvestable, means you can manually tell the ice maker to harvest or cycle. Turn ice maker off, went 5 seconds, turn ice maker back on, tap the paddle 3 times (push the paddle inward completely) then it should cycle, may have a delay like 20 second. I hope this helps.
Ice maker has built in thermostat that turns cycle on at around 10 degrees F. If freezer temp does not reach that point the ice maker will not cycle. So either the freezer is not cold enough or the thermostat is faulty.
Make sure that the ice maker motor that turns the cams and controls the various stages is also working.
Good day, Common problem. Remove ice maker, and make sure tube fits all the way to the rear and seats properly. Then reinstall ice maker and telescope front part of file tube until it fits into ice ice maker properly. (retaining clip in place). For the cost, a new fill tube makes sense. Also......... If the water valve leaks slightly after shutting off during a fill cycle, a plug of ice will build up inside the the fill tube, pushing it off on the next fill cycle. Requires installing a new water valve.
That bar your talking about goes to the full up position just before the end of the harvest cycle then falls right at the end of the cycle. But on a good day it barely drops. Characteristic of that ice maker. If you ran water over the ice maker try these 2 things. 1. Remove the ice maker and leave it on the counter for about 2 days to completely dry out. Then re-install and try again. 2. If no luck, hang a small weight to the middle of the wire to see if it will drop on it's own. 3. If no luck, you'll have to replace the ice maker. However, if your commited to buying a new ice maker, first snap off the front cover and look for interference where the wire goes into the ice maker. You can actually remove the whole solid state front end by removing the 3 screws that hold it on and make a more detailed check. P.S. pull the wire out of the ice maker before this last step. It simply pulls out.
Try filling the ice maker with tap water and let it freeze. If the ice maker cycles and dumps the cubes and then does not refill the dual water valve on rear of the refrigerator for the ice maker fill side is defective, if nothing happens when you pour the water in the trays then most likely the ice maker needs a new thermostat. I'll come back hopefully with photos and links. Sea Breeze
repairs should be performed by an authorized repair technician. D7824706Q complete ice maker should never be advanced manually. the ice maker arm should be in the down position in order to advance. once the inner thermal switch has been satisfied the ice maker motor should advance. the ice maker is damaged and will need to be replaced by the proper ice maker.
When you say you are getting water do you mean you are getting water in the ice maker tray? If so then unfortunately you will need to replace the ice maker. If not getting water to the ice maker then make sure the fill tube to the ice maker isn't frozen shut. If so, thaw it out and see what happens. If it isn't frozen shut then replace the ice maker. New ge ice makers, when installed, will not cycle until the ice maker gets below freezing so you will have to wait once it is installed.
